Shame on Florida for wanting to do that!!! Just fire McElwain for job performance (I.e.) without cause, pay him off, and then hire Lane Kiffin.

When schools do this, it reflects terribly on all of higher education.

Countering that with some BS about saving taxpayer money still begs the question why schools negotiate these ridiculous deals to begin with, and why, if McElwain was like Saban, he'd be getting even bigger deals yearly.

This is beyond stupid.

I'm rooting for the Feds.

I think the Death threat mess-up is all of McElwain. He gave a pretty good show cause and UF is jumping all over it. Does not help accusing the school fans of posting death threats. Especially when they did not happen in timeframe he said

Bottom line is that (a) it's obvious McElwain isn't up to the job, and (b) he has a $13 million buyout.

So ©, it would be fiscally irresponsible to pay him that money if he has done something to breach the buyout clause in the contract.

I seriously doubt the "death threats" comments last week qualify and expect Jim to walk away with most if not all of that cash, but that's a question for the lawyers, and so far, all it seems that Florida has done is consult with their lawyers.

Recall Urban Myer's meltdown (perhaps not the word to use, but to make a point) at UF? Jim McEwain was a successful coordinator and did an excellent job as HC at CSU. His comments were the results of pressure and frustration. Maybe it was a bit of a fib, but fans can be ruthless. A tad of a feeling of paranoia, a search for answers or even an excuse, and an unconstructive way to release pinned-up emotions, becomes a damaging utterance, easily lifted from context to pursue an agenda.

Or, the Florida heat......

It just beggars belief to me that those comments alone can cost a man $13 million. But they might cost him a few. Can see Florida going to him and saying "our lawyers say we have a good case for 'cause', now you can spend a lot of money litigating this, or we can settle for half", and JM agreeing.

Or maybe not. We'll see.

If Florida is going to go down this path, it may set a very bad precedent for attracting future coaches imo. Who wants to walk into a job where your employer will do anything to screw you over if you can't win in the most difficult conference in the nation? I can see UF's rationale since they don't want to become a has-been among premier programs (see Tennessee) with Georgia looking to be on the upswing, but they better know what they're getting into. We saw with LSU how it wasn't exactly easy to attract an elite coaching prospect for a fan base that expects nothing less than becoming Alabama.

Well Florida could also lose in court and turn that $12 million into $120 million.

Does anyone doubt that he got some death threats even if not credible ones?

How can Florida prove he never did?
