So, academic integrity, ethics, and standards no longer matter as long as those benefiting go out there and win some championships for ye old school? What kind of lesson did all these athletes learn from taking these bogus courses? Could it be that they were being used and academically abused? Nay, ot course not, never from that academic giant - UNC-Chapel Hill.
What degree did UNC hand out through this program, a real proverbial BS (Bull S) degree?

“However, NCAA policy is clear. The NCAA defers to its member schools to determine whether academic fraud occurred and, ultimately, the panel is bound to making decisions within the rules set by the membership.”[/b]
Greg Sankey, who was chairman of the infractions committee at the time of UNC’s hearing in August, said today: “The panel is in no way supporting what happened.”
“What happened was troubling, and I think that's been acknowledged by many different parties. But the panel applied the membership’s bylaws to the facts,” said Sankey, who is commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

While it's clear the NCAA is toothless in this situation, the key fact is what I put in bold above. It's not the NCAA's business, *nor* capability to decide when there's been academic fraud at an institution. If the school wants to let it slide and the accrediting body (in this case SACS) let's it slide, they can't really 'overturn' that. Sad, maybe, but true. And really, that's the way it should be. We shouldn't want the NCAA to have that power, I don't think. SACS, yes; but not the NCAA. But that just means UNC's "course" of action is even more reprehensible and shameful. Obviously they care more about the money athletics bring them than academic standards.

The NCAA is so upset with the University of North Carolina, they're going to put Wingate on probation.

Wingate was penalized (below). And, compared to what UNC-CH did, it looks like lifting a piece of bubble gum from the convenience store and going to jail with robbing Fort Knox using a thousand hired guns with tanks, air support, etc and walking out of court free.

I just pulled Wingate out of the air. Maybe I remembered this subconsciously.
