FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - goliath74 - 10-02-2017 10:04 AM

In this series a home team had lost every time. Will the trend continue? Or will the home team finally buck this trend.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - mturn017 - 10-02-2017 10:39 AM

Either team could win this one. If we don't get more offensive production than we've shown thus far then FAU will win this one.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - OwlFamily - 10-02-2017 12:20 PM

Lord it would be nice to be 2-0 in conference. The team has some momentum, lets see if they can keep it rolling. ODU is certainly no cupcake.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - cmett003 - 10-02-2017 01:08 PM

ODU defense looked legit against Virginia Tech in the first half. It was 0-3 well into the second quarter, and actually VT scored their first touchdown on a lucky deflection. But, the offense struggled to move the ball against that Bud Foster defense and the D got gassed. I expect another strong defensive performance from ODU.

Hey, this had been OUR excuse for the longest time! "We were tied with Miami midway through the 3rd", "we were in it against 12th-ranked USF midway through the fourth", "we were tied with #7 Georgia midway through the second". We almost invented that! We have patented that.

Fair enough, but ODU does have a good defense. I expect a low scoring game.

I expect a low-scoring rockfight type of game, much like some of our basketball games. Team that makes the most mistakes will lose this one. You'll pull down at least one interception and we'll make somebody in your backfield fumble the ball.

Do you have any evidence to support this claim. Better yet, do you have any evidence that ODU's defense is better than FAU's? Keep in mind, not even the biggest FAU homers would suggest that our defense is any good.

The Monarchs are second nationally in sacks with 17 and an average of 4.25 sacks per game -- behind only Michigan at 4.5 and with a bye week and only four games. FAU is tied for 90th with 8 sacks in five games and an average of 1.6 sacks per game.

Before anyone says that we only got 1 sack against each VT and UNC, I'm willing to bet FAU's offensive line is closer to UMASS than VT.

So, you are taking one data point, the number of sacks, to suggest that it makes ODU's DL better? How come FAU has better defensive numbers in points allowed per game and yards allowed per game?

Points allowed PER GAME: FAU - 25.4, ODU - 28.8
Yards allowed PER GAME: FAU - 424, ODU - 425.

Interestingly, the vaunted "sack machine" DL of ODU actually allows higher passing yardage per game (245.8 pass YPG) than does FAU (202.4 pass YPG)! Could it be because FAU has played more run-first top offenses (such as Navy and #9 Wisconsin) than ODU has? Could it be that FAU's DL had fewer chances to sack an opposing QB because he drops back to pass so rarely?

You see, cherry picking one stat and basing your assessment of your DL just on that one stat makes you liable to mislead yourself (and others). keep in mind, I am not here to boast of FAU's DL (it's not very good), I am just pointing out the silliness of your statement.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - Monarchist13 - 10-03-2017 09:29 AM

And that's why they play the games, folks. I honestly don't know what to expect. I haven't watched FAU this year but having been a fan of a Lane led team, I know he can call a beautiful offensive game. And while ODU will be starting a 17 yo and has a ton of injuries, including our 2 best offensive players, we also had 2 weeks to lick our wounds and prepare. Should be fun to see it all play out.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - owlcountry40 - 10-03-2017 09:32 AM

Yea, the last few times these teams have played it's been wild. Even last year we jump out to a solid lead and ODU took over after that.

Our TFL are nearly twice as much as yours on a per game basis as well, so I think that with the sacks stats points to us having an aggressive DL. We rarely rush more than four. But the only stat that matters is the final score.

I watched some of FAUs games against Navy and MT. Your team certainly seemed more in sync with thier plays against MT as opposed to the opener. This should be a good game.

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - Dawgxas - 10-03-2017 09:52 AM

What is your definition of a Good defense? Seriously? ODU might be top 5 in CUSA but probably not even in top 100 in FBS.

ODU gave up over 500 yards to a 1-4 UNC team and almost 600 yards to Va Tech, IMO that is not a "good defense"

Throw that stupid sack total out the window because practically all those were against a FCS and basically another FCS UMass

RE: FAU @ ODU Sat., 10/07, 6:00 P.M. ET - 12thmonarch - 10-03-2017 10:04 AM

Doesn't matter how good our defense is if at all. If our tardy OL can't open holes and that pathetic sack of **** WR's can't get separation FAU will have this on a platter. Period.

You're right, we were outclassed by two ACC teams, and we beat two schools inferior to us. I suppose it doesn't teach us anything at all, does it?

Looking forward to what we can do vs our peers for the rest of the season.

We were leading the nation in sacks for a while. Granted, against low level teams. I expect a good game. Could go either way. The winner will certainly have momentum and reason to feel good moving forward.
