I wonder if he had someone try to do that to him at some point. It wouldn't even have occurred to me that someone would try that, though I've heard that people get their fingers bent backwards and stuff like that at the bottom of the pile.
So we don't know how long he is suspended yet?

I would suspend him 3 games and have him apologize to the University as well as Penny. No need to dump the kid for making a bad decision. Have the apology go public since it trended on Twitter.......Boy I would have never wanted to play for some of you guys or have you as a father geez. Dumb stuff sometimes happens in the heat of the moment.

Kick him off the team; obviously not. 1 game suspension - not enough; this is much different than a targeting penalty in the heat of a play. 2-3 games suspension sounds right, and very public. I like the idea of having him apologize to Penny, and making that public also.

Good post and I hope that he is suspended for more than one game. I would not throw him off the team unless he is unable to clean up his act.
I do hope that NIU does not dither in making a decision and a public apology. They need to get on this and the sooner the better.

Thank God it didn't happen, but suppose bacteria from the field on the glove causes an infection, or the poke was severe enough to scratch or damage the eyeball.
Now suppose it happens to your son; would you still be saying "geez"?
Perhaps heat of the moment justifies dumb stuff to you, but the heat of the moment is when sportsmanship, character and class -- or the lack of -- are defined.

I was thinking the same thing. Davis demonstrated his "character" at the bottom of that pile.

When our players are representing NIU they must represent with good sportsmanship and class. As a Huskie fan, I was really embarrassed & upset to see something like this happen.
Kids do stupid things and this was def one of them. Suspension of at least a couple games or 3, PUBLIC apology to SDSU player Penny and the SDSU team & to NIU and his NIU team mates for his actions is in order right away. One player doing a stupid act like this puts a bad light on the entire Huskie team.
The kid should not however have his entire future destroyed by this. He's what? a soph? Still a kid - who did a really regrettable thing.
