Fire Haynes - shakermaker05 - 09-30-2017 07:28 PM

It's time.

RE: Fire Haynes - GFlash68 - 09-30-2017 10:58 PM

We have got to get better. Need to work on that. We will watch more film. We shot ourselves in the foot again. Interview over.

RE: Fire Haynes - shakermaker05 - 10-01-2017 07:17 AM

Yea we're at a point where his optimism seems more delusional than anything. I can't watch his press conferences anymore. That was the one winnable game on our conference schedule. NIU, CMU, OU, WM and Miami are gonna have field day with us.

RE: Fire Haynes - Muskrat - 10-01-2017 07:46 AM

I wouldn't recommend firing him during the season. I think he deserves to be allowed to finish the season. But, the university should be thinking long and hard about who they may want for the next coach and who may be actually be available.

RE: Fire Haynes - Muskrat - 10-01-2017 08:01 AM

I think BG is more winnable than was Buffalo. Miami and Akron don't impress me. But still, I see a 1-11 season, POSSIBLY 2-10.

BG is the only game that will even be close. And as PH is fond of saying, we will "shoot ourselves in the foot" and find a way to lose. We are that bad.

RE: Fire Haynes - BuckeyeFlyerFlash - 10-01-2017 09:30 AM

I think PH is a good guy etc, but the continued level of mediocrity with his program.... its' time for change. I would think the players can see they are not put in positions to be successful by this coaching staff. Even the TV and radio analysts yesterday were baffled and dismayed by the play calling and position substitution timing....it appears to be a rudderless ship- fire the captain....

Agree in general with your statements - we've seen this pattern repeat over and over the past three seasons. The MAC East is so bad we should be competitive however our continued inability to score touchdowns in a league that plays poor defense is an albatross around out neck. Whoever comes in - unless they have recruiting connections in NE Ohio - will most likely have to hit the JCs to get a team ready for next year.

I would hope getting beaten like this by Buffalo would be the final nail in Haynes coffin. I agree with shaker that it has gotten painful listening to Haynes talk about the good things we did and how we're building for next week as we keep getting our brains beaten in. However, the potential firing is not what I'm worried about, but the aftermath. If we just bungle through the season and start looking for a coach in December I doubt we'll be happy with the choice. The AD should start now getting together names and qualities that a new coach has to have and be ready to contact top targets as soon as the season is over.

As a quick side note - I checked the Akron site - they're talking about getting Bo Pellini to replace TB after YSu won last night - sounds familiar

No offense but I speak for everyone on this board when I say we would kill for mediocrity.

RE: Fire Haynes - MAC tOAMU - 10-02-2017 11:33 AM

At this point, this staff is doing a disservice to the kids on the team. Can anyone who has watched this team play the last few weeks(sans Holley at QB) legitimately state that this team is even trying to play winning football?

They are playing to merely go out there and participate in a football game....not even "playing not to lose".

It's shameful, IMO.

RE: Fire Haynes - ilovegymnast - 10-02-2017 01:39 PM

The moment they took the QB out after completing a long td pass was the moment that proved they are purposely tanking this season. Almost as if they are hoping to be fired instead of not retained. I'm assuming they are wanting to start their own job searches sooner than later.

RE: Fire Haynes - GFlash68 - 10-02-2017 03:33 PM

Who would hire this staff?

RE: Fire Haynes - BuckeyeFlyerFlash - 10-21-2017 05:02 PM

Shakermaker05- "I'm in" time to go coach Haynes- thanks for your service...this rudderless ship needs a new captain and crew before it runs aground and sinks for good...

RE: Fire Haynes - Muskrat - 10-21-2017 05:36 PM

If this is, in fact, the last year of his contract he's done, unless there is an incredible turnaround the rest of the season, which is highly unlikely. The questions are (1) who can they get and (2) will he be any good?

My answer to this question is another question. Who will be doing the hiring? Will it be the same person or persons that hired and orchestrated the existing regime?

RE: Fire Haynes - Muskrat - 10-21-2017 06:33 PM

Excellent question, GFlash68, and perhaps the most pertinent one. Also, the other day I was looking at their won-loss records each season, and noticed that within a couple of years after their two most recent successful coaches(Mason and Hazell), the only two with a winning record the last forty years, departed they hit rock bottom again. That leads me to wonder just how well even they recruited.

RE: Fire Haynes - GFlash68 - 10-21-2017 06:49 PM

I think you will find that the ones that come and has some success, will recruit like crazy for the first and second year and mostly likely will bring transfers and JCs with him for immediate help to support the existing talent. Some of the newcomers will be gone in 2 or 3 years. If the coach is successful, he too is gone in 3 to 5 years, leaving a team that is not very deep. An exception was Darrell Hazel who reaped the benefit of good recruiting by his predecessor Doug Martin. This is the plight of being in the MAC. For those pessimist that think that Kent is hopeless, remember, just 5 years ago we were a top 25 team playing for the MACC. With the local talent that we lose to the zits and Rockets, we could be there again.

RE: Fire Haynes - ilovegymnast - 10-21-2017 08:59 PM

Sam Houston St just put up 63 points today with 47 of them in the first half. They also had 643 yards of offense including 390 through the air and 253 on the ground. Of the 253 rushing yards 0 were by the quarterback. They are averaging 45.4/ppg this year with a season high of 66 points. Last year they averaged 54.2/ppg and scored over 60 three times and 59 twice. I want a coach that tries to score 100 every game.

Kent has only scored 77 points on the whole season with the season high being 38 against Howard. Last year versus Buffalo is Haynes career high of 45 points. In 2012 Kent averaged 34.4/ppg then Haynes took over and they averaged 19.2/ppg.
