Can't wait to try out the new seats and to see this year's team in action.

Welcome to November. Let the games begin!!!!

From what you read here, you would think we are better than a program that only gets to the tournament 25% of the time in our rich and storied history. But Jones has gotten us to the tournament 0% of the time, and I would like to thank ODU for providing me with an engineering education that allowed me to calculate that number.
Does it? Don't let him spin the facts. 11 in 40 years is better than one every four years. We are going on 7 and most of those belong to JJ. He also failed to mention that coaches were fired for those other dry spells.

Aside from all that, should we be aspiring to replicate the program's lows, or to maintain the highs and build on them?

Do you really believe we are replicating the program's lows right now? I think we are in a better position now than we were when BT left the program in a valley. How would anyone be able to build on that? I agree that 7 years is long, but with the current class it feels like there is a trend upwards, or at least the potential for it. Just brings me to my other question of how long is it supposed to take? You would think 4 years, to get all the pieces together. But if 1 in every 3.6 years is our average to maintain, maybe it takes a bit longer to get out of a valley.

Annndddd we are back to the "we sucked for one year excuse".

Honestly. What do you want? Do you want to fire JJ right now if that included losing the recruits we have?

I would be okay with that, but its not practical. I want to stick with what pretty much everyone wanted after last season. No NCAA = New Coach.

What I don't want is for there to be some shiny object after every mediocre season that allows people to justify giving it another year and another year until we are 10 years in with a coach who hasn't gotten us to more than one NCAA tournament.

I have a feeling that the constant spittle-infused echoes coming off of your own screen are making you think that there is some great consensus on this point.

My guess is that there is not.

You can't be serious. Any and everyone who has desired to express their opinion on the subject has had ample opportunity. This is the equivalent of a dog chasing his tail, so others can continue it. I choose not to.

Winning would fix the issue of this subject being front and center of discussion.

People complained during the season of the NIT run, and they won a ton that year.

Nobody was complaining when we finished 11-1 OOC and got in the top 25. Even Razor was praising him at that point as well as during the NIT run. The complaining was due to crapping the bed in the midseason and blowing all the good work. I'm sure someone will complain short of winning a national championship, but I think most people are reasonable and complaining that a good team has its season ruined by being coached into losing to 300 RPI teams every time we were outside of the Ted is justified.

How many 300 RPI team have we lost to?

RE: 2017 basketball - Monarchist13 - 11-03-2017 08:27 PM

We had 1 really bad loss that year (on the road) against UTSA. They had an RPI of 232 that year. All the other losses were on the road against schools that care about hoops in the league; WKU, MTSU, UAB and UTEP.

JJ talked about the schedule and said Charleston is a great opportunity and the middle of the road regular season has some good even contests - obviously not THE P5 dandies but good matchups that will benefit us going into conference. All in all I sensed a good team makeup with gelling abilities . I like our chances this year.

I’m missing the exhibition but will be there for Towson. Looking forward to it!

Miller just tweeted that ODU beat GW by 24 in the secret scrimmage.

We now have a DJ at the Ted. Set-up in the front of the student section. Guess they're trying to make it more fun for the students.

My guess is that there is not.

If there isn't a consensus on this it's because our fan base has become a joke.

You know what types of schools don't fire a coach for consistently missing the NCAA tourney? W&M, that's who. Brady actually made an NCAA tourney at JMU and he still got canned a few years later.

We HAVE to raise our standards to at the very least get back to Blaine levels of success. 2 good but not great years of recruiting are not nearly enough to make up for the boring basketball/100+ rpi teams we've been watching (and most likely will be again this year).

Jones has a chance to save his job this year. He needs to do it because a few decent recruits is not nearly good enough to justify his continued employment at a job he didn't deserve in the first place.
