This is as bad as Norlander to me. Just seems like trying to throw crap against the wall.

It was a battle last year that could have gone either way...

Does anyone know if Monarch Media will be streaming the home games like in the past? I know last year it was CUSA.tv doing most of them, but I don't know if thats a thing anymore.

Good question. Last year ASN carried a bunch, but they seem to have dropped football, so I figure basketball will be invisible too.

ASN got eaten by Stadium.

Yet it still shows up on my FIOS and is broadcasting D2 and D3 games on ACTUAL TV. CUSA... nope.

They've been showing ODU stadium games on Cox in Hampton Roads.

RE: 2017 basketball - monarx - 10-30-2017 06:33 PM

So I looked at CUSA.tv, and there is only one game listed for ODU. Other schools seem to have many. I would have to assume ODU just hasn't sent them the list of what they intend to broadcast, or else they will go with MonarchMedia. You would think ODU would make it more clear where to go to watch the games. Maybe they're still negotiating to get some on TV, thus the delay.

RE: 2017 basketball - 757ODU - 10-31-2017 12:05 PM

Any stats from that scrimmage vs GW?

RE: 2017 basketball - mturn017 - 10-31-2017 12:28 PM

Hopefully there will be more ESPN3 games announced. There's just the one home game against FAU currently. I'd assume the rest would be on either MM or CUSATV. It'll probably be the same feed regardless so I'd just assume it be on CUSATV so I can pay one monthly fee and watch away games as well but I don't know what is better for the school.

RE: 2017 basketball - Monarchist13 - 10-31-2017 12:44 PM

We managed to do all those upgrades last year to get every home conference bball game on espn3. Would hope (and I doubt) that they would not abandon that plan of attack now.

I've never subscribed to either of those in the past, but am thinking of getting whatever provides the most ODU basketball coverage this season. Could you enlighten me on your thoughts about them if you have used either one before.

How much they cost per month (or year)?
How the picture and audio quality of the game broadcast was?
Best way to access it on the main TV (I have Apple TV & ROKU along with DirecTV).

Thanks for the info.

MM is $10/month ($99 for the year - unless that changed) and you get a bunch of other sports included. Its just the home basketball games though. Thats where CUSA.tv was a bit better even though its more expensive ($14/month - don't remember if they have a annual membership) but you get the away games too. This is all from past years. If they have changed their pricing or availability I haven't heard of anything.

The quality varies from school to school. Some are unwatchable. ODU's is probably better than average I'd say.

Your best bet is to hook a laptop to your TV. MM and CUSA.tv don't have apps for ATV or roku or anything else. I think some people use Chromcast (casting to their TV from their phones) and have had success doing that.

The audio quality is the radio feed. Its usually fine. The video is what is playing on the jumbo tron (unless the upgrades have a dedicated camera now, I do not know if that is the case).

In their preseason rankings, SI.com has us ranked 112th, 3rd in CUSA.

Pretty good run down. CUSATV is 10.95/mo though (99.95/year or 6.95/24 hours). It's mostly not pretty, some schools it's down right bad and some are pretty good. I don't mind paying $11/month to watch the Monarchs 3-4 times though and sometimes I'll check out other conference games. I dumped it last March and haven't needed it for FB so far, thankfully. It's better than nothing and IMO better than radio which is mostly the only other choice for those games if you can't be there.

Here are our opponenents rankings:

Towson - 121
JMU - 211
Temple - 62

Other Charleston Classic Teams
Auburn - 33
Indiana St - 180
Clemson - 60
Ohio - 151
Dayton - 82
Hofstra - 152

William and Mary - 168
Maryland Eastern-Shore - 323
VCU - 55
Richmond - 145
Bowling Green - 263
Fairfield - 200
Norfolk State - 314
Charlotte - 232
Rice - 316
North Texas - 313
WKU - 100
Marshall - 226
FIU - 327
FAU - 230
Charlotte - 232
MTSU - 83
UAB - 165
Southern Miss - 294
La Tech - 119
UTSA - 243
UTEP - 167
Marshall - 226
WKU - 100
FAU - 230
FIU - 327

The bottom of C-USA is absolutely pathetic. Lose one to FIU, Southern Miss, or North Texas and that is a season killer.

RE: 2017 basketball - odu09 - 10-31-2017 03:08 PM

Just shows that the bottom of the conference is truly the bottom of the universe, and they are the reason why our conference is rated in the 20s

RE: 2017 basketball - cmett003 - 10-31-2017 03:13 PM

If you are ranked below 250 you are literally not even trying at basketball. They are killing our conference.

If we get through the regular season with only 6 losses, I think that would be very good. I'm counting on a win against VCU and a split with WKU, so maybe we only have four losses. Its unlikely, but if that happens, even with 6 losses, I have to believe we have an at-large resume.
