Posts discussing our future coaching should not be looked down on just because you perceive it as being a wet blanket.
That being said, I agree about Scottie, ECU is stuck with him unless someone writes a big check.

I knew a lot of teams moved up since my day but out of curiosity I took a look. Half the FCS teams we played during the 1991 regular season have moved to FBS.
UCF, App St, UMass, Ga So, and now Liberty. We beat 4 of them by the way.

If we beat them regularly while both as fcs/iaa schools, we'd beat them regularly as fbs schools as well.

From what I can gather online, ECU is still paying for Ruffin McNeill's base salary of $1.25M through 6/30/18. Scottie Montgomery's contract takes him through 6/30/21. I'm assuming he has a similar buyout of paying the base salary through a certain end date of the contract.
Is ECU so willing to just finish paying for two HCs at once (really even three at once through the end of next June), only to turn around and continue to pay 2 HCs for three more seasons? What happens if they still don't win the 8+ wins that ECU fans seem to expect each season within the first two seasons of a new coach?
There has to be a point where unless a big time donor comes forward and personally pays off the contract money, then there's only so much they can do, so soon. ECU students shouldn't be responsible to foot that bill.

I believe I heard this weekend that Coach Montgomery's buyout is only $400,000 not $1,000,000 because that is his base salary. The rest is paid for him being active in the Pirate club fundraising. This info is from their weekly radio show so who knows if they have their facts straight, but one of the hosts is former coach Steve Logan and he was ripping his program to shreds on air. The ECU fanbase is a trainwreck right now. They want to fire everyone, Coach, AD, Chancellor, the mascot and JMU is the catalyst for it.

That's correct. Buyout is much less than his total compensation.
ECU fans probably all wishing they kept McNeil and his 7 wins per season including 8+ wins in 3 of his last 4 years.

They're being so dramatic that it's sad. Nobody likes being reminded they're not as far up the CFB food chain as they think they are. That P6 marketing campaign by the AAC is going to their heads.

Yep. Just like I wished we'd kept Lefty despite a couple off years. The Dillard/Keener years were just nauseating. ECU may be in similar waters.

Ha! ECU is not the worst team in FBS. Georgia State is. The formula needs some serious tweaking lol. Still funny... and the author admits as much that the formula pays no respect to FCS teams.
If NDSU and JMU have not proven that not all FCS teams are created equal, I don't know what can change minds.
