As a minority from Alabama, I support the SPLC.
As a minority in the USA, I can understand the need to get money out of the reach of the Trump Administration.

Morris Deas and Mark Potok live under constant threats of violence. I'd rather they get paid less, but I understand it. And they have to live in Alabama. And they have recruit researchers to live in Montgomery. Its a true hardship posting.

And its not like you're raising or donating the money. The SPLC is more of an advocacy/research organization than anything else.

By the way, anyone want to name a specific group labeled a hate group by the SPLC so we can discuss WHY they are named there? I've asked multiple times. All I get from y'all is crickets.

Unless you can provide an objective definition of "Hate Group" then the SPLC's definition -- and yours -- is purely subjective.

You can guess some of the groups I would name and proceed to rationalize their inclusion based solely on opinion which would make your request an exercise in futility.

Again, you're the ones complaining that the SPLC incorrectly names hate groups. I asked you for a specific example of them labelling someone incorrectly.

Dude, you're a white male. Who you sleep with doesn't make you a minority.

Living in Alabama is far from a hardship. I have plenty of liberal friends who live here just fine.

Dude, you're a white male. Who you sleep with doesn't make you a minority.

Living in Alabama is far from a hardship. I have plenty of liberal friends who live here just fine.

Well my brother was recently rejected from every hospice we applied to in Mobile. They say 'we can't handle HIV' (although I bet they'll accept any number of contagious diseases that impact white straight persons). He spent one of his last weeks on Earth in terrible pain, in a obscenely unsuitable environment, with no medical care because he couldn't get medical treatment. And if you're detailed as hospice, the insurance company cuts you off from the ER. Please let me know the hospices in Mobile that take HIV positive/Gay persons. I'd love a list. I'd imagine that AIDS Alabama South would probably like a list too. The hospice group also sat on his application for six days before rejecting him, causing further delays.

BTW, there also is a huge problem with getting any medical care in Alabama, if you're perceived to be Gay or have a disease that impacts the Gay community. In Mobile, there's one provider. And they are absolutely unable to cope with the workload. Before his disease progresed, my brother was under 'life and death' level need to get to a HIV specialist (referred by USA Med Center). He had to wait weeks.

Here's how HIV positive persons are treated in Alabama. http://www.al.com/news/mobile/index.ssf/2016/10/the_family_of_hiv-patient_dump.html The Mobile Infirmary straight up threw a Gay man, desperately ill with AIDS, in pajamas out of their emergency room, threw him in a puddle on the friggin' street in 40 degree rain and then threw his medicine on top of him, and left him there. He was found 4 hours later. He died of exposure (of course at another hospital - Mobile Infirmary wouldn't treat him). All of this was on security cameras. Criminal charges filed.....ZERO.

Its actually DANGEROUS to be a Gay person in Alabama. Because you can't get medical care. You can't even die with any dignity. In 2017.

It disproportionately impacts the Gay community. Any comments on the Mobile Infirmary case? Any idea of where a Gay man with AIDS can get life or death treatment in Alabama's second largest metro? How about where they can even die with dignity?

I believe that the horrendous treatment my brother and other AIDS sufferers in Mobile face is the proximate result of hate groups, rightfully called out by the SPLC, furthering discrimination and demonization against Gay persons. The SPLC is vital in Alabama.

What? Want a PM with my brother's obituary? How about the name of the hospice group that turned him down? Did you even read the link about what happened to the AIDS patient at Mobile Infirmary? Want to try to call up the only provider of HIV/AIDS care in Mobile and tell them you've been referred by the major hospital in town (probably the only hospital that will treat Gay persons) and need to get treatment immediately and see how long it takes?

BTW, dealing with my brother's death was why I was out of here all July. He used to post in here quite a bit (mainly in the Conference realignment/ Sun Belt rooms). His handle was either AlaIllTex or AlIllTex or something like that.

Haven't lost a lawsuit yet. No idea. Nor do I care so long as they're calling out discrimination that I believe creates an environment that endangers the safety of minorities.

As Trump ramps up from basic racism toward lawlessness and white nationalism, its prudent for anyone who is a minority to start protecting assets, or is opposed to white nationalism.

Either way, do you have any group that you feel has been labelled a hate group by the SPLC unfairly? I think perhaps you guys know that the SPLC has reason to call out groups as hate groups, but you just are upset that they dare do it. Give me a name of a group, and we can discuss.

Right, and Ayann Hirsi Ali is an "extremist" and Army bases are "confederate monuments" that must come down. These "hate lists" are nothing more than dog whistles to domestic terrorists like Floyd Lee Corkins.

You're on the wrong side of history, my friend.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/06/justice/dc-family-research-council-shooting/index.html

The Family Research Council was and is a straight-up hate group. They contantly advocate criminalization of Gay persons. Their leader paid David Duke thousands. They spent thousands lobbying against condemnation of Uganda's Kill the Gays Bill. They are linked with the World Congress of Families/Russia. They consistently demonize Gay persons, use discredited science, and scapegoat LGBT persons. They advocate for employment discrimination, housing discrimination, government discrimination, medical care discrimination, public accommodations discrimination, pay discrimination, and educational discrimination against LGBT persons. They are linked with groups that advocate for the denial of freedom of speech, association, press, petition, protest, due process, expression and even religion for LGBT persons.

And there are plenty of people calling the FRC, and everyone linked to it straight up haters, consumed with malevolence against Gay persons. They have justification for doing so. Its unfortunate that some crazy person decided to operate outside the law, but the FRC doesn't get a pass to continue advocating for horrendous discrimination against LGBT persons in response.

Now, please defend the FRC against charges that they are a hate group.

---

Here's the reason why Ms Ali is on the list. https://www.splcenter.org/20161025/journalists-manual-field-guide-anti-muslim-extremists#ali Appears to be some pretty ugly statements, against all Muslims. Also wants to basically make the practice of Islam, even by moderates (they do exist) illegal in the West (advocates shutting down all Musllm schools). And the SPLC didn't call her a hate group, but rather an anti-Muslim extremist.

No, no buts.

We need to clear this up. Do you disavow all domestic terrorism, or do you think it's sometimes justified if it's against what you consider a "hate" group or someone you disagree with politically?

Now, please defend the FRC against charges that they are a hate group.

No, no buts.

We need to clear this up. Do you disavow all domestic terrorism, or do you think it's sometimes justified if it's against what you consider a "hate" group or someone you disagree with politically?

Yes, the attack on the FRC was terrorism and should be condemned.

But that in no way provides a license for the FRC to continue their campaign of extreme hate against LGBT persons. They are a hate group, full stop. They spent thousands defending state sponsored murder of Gay persons in Uganda. The FRC is on the list for a reason.

The SPLC and many others are correct to call out the FRC for being the haters they are. Otherwise, their views and their hate get mainstreamed.
