UT Volleyball 2017 - northcoastRocket - 08-14-2017 07:13 PM
VBall season starts this Friday the 18th with an exhibition match against Oakland at Savage. OOC schedule starts on the 25th, playing at a tournament at Fort Wayne.
Unfortunately, looking at the roster, Gracie Tuifua is no longer on the team. Some searching finds that she has transferred to Weber State - she's from Utah so hopefully that's just cause she wanted to be closer to home.
Gracie was a huge contributor her 1st 2 seasons, as the #2 outside hitter. That leaves a big hole to fill, so some younger player is gonna have to step up.
Oh the bright side, we won't have to hear Balbinot mispronounce her name 6 different ways every game.

Also, it appears the Rockets lost 2 players to transfers in the off-season. In addition to Tuifua, Machayla Leonard has transferred to Illinois State, which is in her home town of Normal, IL.

Rockets playing SIUE in the 1st match of the tourney. UT takes set 1 25-21, but get clobbered in set 2 25-15. Set 3 just getting underway.
Rockets starting 2 freshmen in this match.

Rockets build up a good lead in set 3, but let it dwindle away, losing a marathon 31-29. SIUE up 2 sets to 1.

In set 4, UT sprints out to a 10-4 lead, then loses it, but wins it back at the end to take set 4 25-21.
Going to a 5th set.

Disappointing start for the Rockets. After watching the team last season and seeing that they did not really lose that much to graduation, I was cautiously optimistic for a really good season. The transfer of Tuifua certainly hurts.
One positive was that freshman Emma Swope led the team in kills in the match against Fort Wayne.
It's still early in the season, so hopefully things will improve heading into MAC play.
