TXST and NMSU Schedule Series for 2018 and 2020 - Bobcat2013 - 08-10-2017 03:36 PM

In San Marcos in 18. NM in 20. I wish the locations were flipped so we could have an 8 game home schedule in 20 but I'm glad we signed a series with yall!

We've followed Benson's non-conference scheduling guidelines to a T since joining.

Right now in 2020 our non conference schedule is home games with UTSA, SMU, and Ohio and this road game at NMST. No P5 game. No FCS. Should have 7 home games that year.

Wish Tulsa hadn't backed out of 2018, but I'm good with NMSU as a replacement. Not a bad get on short notice . .

Agreed. Tulsa screwed us. NMST's drop to independence may have bailed us out. I said in April when news dropped of Tulsa backing out that it'd be either Liberty or New Mexico State. Glad it's the Aggies.

I like it. I think we need to get away from the FCS games. That will be a fun schedule in 2020. It is also great that we can schedule NMSU out-of-conference. We help each other and continue the rivalry started in the WAC. Now we need to work on a home-and-home series in basketball.

I like the 2020 schedule too. I just said yesterday how negative bobcatfans is right now. Those guys are bitching up a storm about no P5 game over there. 7 home games with that home non-conference schedule isn't good enough for them...

With TXST added to the schedule, that gives us 11 for 2018. Just need to schedule an FCS team.

Glad we're on your schedule for the next few years . . . Hope we're a little more competitive than we were last year . . .

Sucks that the SBC didn't give y'all a home . . . Still hoping that y'all land somewhere. Not sure how long the independent route will be good for y'all. 04-cheers

The athletic department at NMSU deserves a lot of credit for how they're scheduling as an independent.

Instead of filling the schedule with 12 games of anyone from any part of the country, the schedule is filling up with opponents as relevant to NMSU fans as they could possibly ask for.

They'll have an annual FCS game, which is to be expected.
They're scheduling with another independent , Liberty, which arguably is the only opponents who's just a "warm body" in the eyes of NMSU and meets a mutual need.
Beyond that, they have road P5 money games. They have several MWC opponents, plus BYU, each of whom are very much the kind of regional opponents NMSU should be playing. They're continuing their series against both UNM and UTEP. Finally, they're playing some of the SBC opponents they've been playing over the past four years.

It could be so much worse. Random MAC teams or eastern C-USA or even eastern AAC teams playing in Las Cruces would not fit a team that's a southwestern independent.

I hope NMSU is able to get a decent TV deal for exposure to help sustain what is, I hope, a short period of Independence. Otherwise, this seems like a good start for their program in this new era.

I would love NAU to play at NMSU - but in 2018 we are already at UTEP

Given your geographic locations, why not a long term series?

Already have one with UTSA and a three game series with Baylor after 2020. Not sure a long term series is needed at this time by the Bobcats. This helped us in 2018 after Tulsa backed out and made their return game TBD.
