ECU logistics - CvilleDukes - 07-08-2017 07:30 AM

I saw a little info that's buried amongst a lot of smack in another thread about logistics, so starting a separate one here. Hopefully some Pirate fans can chime in here too.

Planning on bringing the family to ECU which surprisingly will be my/our first JMU road game.

Any tips on hotels and locations to avoid?

ECU Sports lists this for general parking:

LIMITED GENERAL PUBLIC PARKING
Parking for football fans without reserved parking passes will be available in the Carol Belk Building lot along Charles Boulevard ($20 per vehicle) and in the gravel lots along 14th Street ($20 per vehicle). Parking is limited and lots will open six hours prior to kick-off for weekend games (8:00 a.m. for kick-offs earlier than 2:00 p.m.), and 4:00 p.m. for weeknight games. Spaces will be first-come, first-served. Access to the lots along 14th Street will be shut down four (4) hours prior to kick-off.

Where are the good guys aiming to tailgate?

RE: ECU logistics - Wear Purple - 07-08-2017 07:56 AM

Subject to change, but hoping to pull 3 of us into the 14th St. lot shortly after noon.

Side note, wondering aloud if JMU fans should make a point to wear white to the game. One, it will distinguish/differentiate our section and fans spread out through the stadium from the "other" purple folks...two, even at a 6pm kickoff it will likely be a very hot day so light-colored clothing should help...three, I assume the Good Guys will be wearing white that game. Just a thought...

Side note #2...on September 2nd last year in Greenville NC, they had 10 inches of rain. Not 1. Not 2. Not 4 or 5. But, 10!!! Tropical Storm Hermine dumped a load of rain on the eastern coast around Labor Day weekend last year. Let's hope we don't get anything like that this year, but is always a risk that time of year.

Here's a link to the ECU D-F Stadium parking map FWIW...http://www.ecupirates.com/documents/2014/8/19/FBParkingMap2014-15.pdf

This actually may be a bit better parking map FWIW...http://www.ecu.edu/cs-admin/news/upload/parkingmaplarge.pdf

The Hokies have been going down there for years for games (and I believe are scheduled again this season). I don't know if they have any suggestions/recommendations.

RE: ECU logistics - BleedingPurple - 07-08-2017 08:23 AM

Just remember, Greenville, NC is not Harrisonburg. While the ECU campus is nice, Greenville not so much. There's sections of town you need to stay clear of.

RE: ECU logistics - CvilleDukes - 07-08-2017 08:29 AM

Quick search shows not many hotel rooms left in Greenville anyway. If we can't work this into a beach trip, might need to look at Wilson or Washington for hotels.

And wearing white is my thought as well assuming ECU doesn't turn this into a white-out.

This is when I miss Pitz being on the message boards...

I wonder if a possible option for later arrivals if that Belk lot is full is there apparently is a lot from a closed K-Mart that looks to between the Belk Building and the Greenville Mall, right behind the Belk Building Zone 3 on the above map, just off the map. The ECU sports website now doesn't mention it, but from parking info for ECU's last home last season it was mentioned as one of several possibilities not run by ECU or the city where people could pay to park at. Google says Belk Building .7 mile walk to the stadium, K-mart lot .8 mile.

Belk Lot
thats where visiting fans tailgate.

RE: ECU logistics - CarolinaDuke - 08-10-2017 07:18 AM

Parking passes for the Belk Lot are on sale through the JMUSports website for $20 plus tax and shipping. All together it comes to around $28. You have to log into your Duke Club account first though and then navigate to the Buy Tickets page. Could be a good idea for those who might be getting in later in the day. The official Duke Club tailgate will be adjacent to the Belk Lot so should be a lot of Dukes in the area.

September 2nd can't get here fast enough!

Parking isn't hard, just make sure you have some cash. Our group got spots on the side lot of the Harris Teeter. It was perfect. Apart from offering the convenience of a grocery store, there are some trees to help with the heat. It was also a short walk from the stadium and fairly easy to get out after the game. There were plenty of other fans to mingle with as well.

Hmmm...interesting. Thanks.

RE: ECU logistics - Potomac - 08-10-2017 07:34 AM

I'll probably only be arriving 1-2 hours before kickoff. What're the odds that Belk Lot will be full?

RE: ECU logistics - DevilDawg - 08-10-2017 09:31 PM

Since I am back in the U.S. and this game is only 90 minutes from where I live, I'll be taking the RV. I could arrive as early as Friday evening in the Belk lot, but don't think we'll head up until Saturday morning unless there will be a good number of Dukes there Friday night. Also we won't have to leave the Belk lot until Sunday morning.

All things aside. You and the family will have a great time (weather permitting). Similar to VTech, we have open tailgates to all visitors. You'll learn quickly why our game day experience is well known. Fun (long) tailgating, great fans, great game atmosphere and just a good time. I'm happy to hear you and the fam are coming. Try to park near (or at) Elmhurst Elementary School.

RE: ECU logistics - ODUsmitty - 08-10-2017 10:36 PM

We were at the Kmart lot a few years back. PLENTY of room on the grass and easy in/out. Just under a mile walk, but that was no big deal. It filled up completely, though, so get there early.

Anywhere you could possibly find to park for the game, if in walking distance, is a fine area. There is really only one "bad" part of Greenville. If you're tailgating there, you're horrendously lost.

RE: ECU logistics - ECUFan - 08-11-2017 06:51 PM

The Belk lot is huge, typically where all the visitors' tailgate anyway, maybe like a 5-10 min walk to the stadium.

My remarks were not directed towards tailgating but rather lodging, dining, and maybe taking in a bar. Some are spending two nights.
