Tormenta FC is Statesboro's Minor League Soccer team. The new stadium will have a capacity of 5,000 but be expandable to 10k for other events and will be located across the bypass from the Georgia Southern RAC. The stadium will also feature office/commercial space, and the project is being developed by the same company that built the new Braves Stadium. Though the article above doesn't mention GS Soccer specifically, the plan is for GS soccer to use the venue as well and LED signage will change based on who is playing. Huge step for the city of Statesboro.

Didn't we just upgrade the soccer/track complex?

I think we replaced the track but idk if we did anything to the rest of the stadium.

This would be one of the top on-campus college soccer venues in the country, and that's not an exaggeration. For comparison, Virginia's stadium seats 3,500 not including grass seats. UNC's stadium seats 5,700.

Whether it would translate to being more competitive in soccer...maybe.

I think they renovated the bathrooms and stuff but that facility isn't any bigger than my house so it couldn't have cost too much.

I personally find soccer boring but that's still awesome to have a minor league team invest in its longevity in town-that would be awesome for any college town

I'm confused. Is this on-campus, near-campus or off?

What league is Tormenta FC in that they'd need a stadium like this?

So in other words, right next to campus.

They are moving from the Development league to the USL.

Is the plan to be Atlanta's "minor league" team?

The tier system in American soccer is a tough one to figure out, so many different leagues. So you guys want to move up to tier II correct?

AFC Mobile started this season, we are a tier 5 team, and not playing well, can't seem to get a win. But we are leading the league in attendance.

That's a heck of a facility for the town the size of Statesboro. That's a good get and could result in some nice events.

Answered my own question, you guys are going into the new USL D3 league, which is tier 3.

Yes I don't know that much about the American soccer system but Tormenta is moving to the 3rd tier. I believe they are tied to Atlanta United somehow but I'm not sure.

RE: 5,000 Seat Soccer Stadium Coming to Statesboro/GS - BurlingtonApp - 07-02-2017 10:50 AM

From my understanding, USL and NASL are the second division. I'm not seeing any indication that Tormenta FC will be in USL this upcoming year.

Maybe Eagle football could play in the stadium for their lower level games in order to save money.
