Tony Paul of the Detroit News has become the go to guy for MAC sports in MI.

The fears that EMU would hire a small time hire were unfounded.

He has Midwest roots, exp. as a senior assoc. AD, and a little exp. as interim AD at a SEC school.

I'm surprised that he has so much experience coast-to-coast Midwest, South, Atlantic Coast, West Coast.

Good resume for a MAC school.

His most recent schools were Ms. State and E. Carolina. Maybe we can do some games with them.

Wow. It appears that EMU didn't screw it up.

I really don't know what to say. Glad he chose us.

SEC....football territory......I'm impressed. I was wrong.

I would assume one of the things that attracted him to the job was the hint of light at the end of the football tunnel, and this new building plan? He will basically get most of the credit as it comes together, even though it wasn't really his creation.

Having said this.......I'm still reserving judgement either way.....until him and Smith make some concrete public announcements about the plan/funding/timelines.

Today is board of regents meeting. We'll see if anything new comes out.

The key will be when they start asking donors who pledged over say 5 years to start ponying up their contributions.

THEN we'll know plans are a foot.

As we discussed, I believe for this project to be implemented correctly, shovels need to be in the ground the week after Thanksgiving. That gives 9 months so that a football building is up, a new scoreboard (need that) is up, etc. etc. (remember, the scoreboard, jumbotron attaches to the new football building).

BTW, we need new lights. I was at the CMU game last year and I saw and Heather verified we rented lights.

Watching the events.

Scott comes across very well, as a very, very authentic person.

He as deep PERSONAL roots with WMU and BG ADs.

He is a real Midwestern guy. His father lives in K'zoo. Born in Sturgis. Has a degree at Ball State.

No questions for those present. Hopefully the media asks a lot of questions in the one on one sessions (Pls. ask about the building project).

Agree. And there it is Eagle Tough, top of his priority list is the Championship Building Plan!!!

My question is: With a new AD do we need to wait another 2 months for the next regents meeting to get the building plan going?

Are (were) these say four lost months without a permanent AD???

In an interview Wetherbee says he hopes to start July 17th.

Seems like a straight shooter. Something I appreciate. Don't like snakes.

RE: New EMU AD is... - Bob Wickersham - 06-27-2017 03:17 PM

HUGE upgrade over Lyke. Nice hire.

RE: New EMU AD is... - Ken Barna - 06-27-2017 03:40 PM

Dear Bob,
I would disagree. She hired Creighton, and was probably the brains behind the new athletic construction, as well as hiring other successful coaches at Eastern.
Wetherbee may be better than Lyke, but only time will tell.

I watched the webcast and his persona came across 100 or 1,000% sincere.

I think most people have B.S. meters and can tell when we are being B.S.ed.

He came across as the type of person you'd want for a brother or brother-in-law.

BTW, this is the agenda for yesterday's athletic meeting.

Interesting the facilities including lighting at Rynearson.

Ken, I was never a fan of her or her OSU way of doing things. Wetherbee seems more like the caliber of person who should be running EMU. Hopefully he will find us a great basketball coach!

I am pleased with the selection of AD, restores a bit of faith in Dr. Smith and the Regents. Time to move forward!

I was surprised at the level of second guessing before the selection.

No reason for a school to make a bad choice. PLENTY of excellent candidates out there.

I'm sure any of us could have selected him. Good career record, Midwesterner and a real MAC guy.

Excellent fit.

I wasn't given some of lack of transparency on the part of the administration and Regents and lukewarm comments during the "budget" issue. The past handling of student protesters, Dr. Martin and the EAA haven't impressed me. No reason for the school to made a bad choice? We've made plenty on a number of issues at EMU in the past. I also said I wanted an AD similar to what CMU hired and we got one with a similar background. So pleased we didn't blow it.
