Miss USA Winner Angers Liberals With Health Care Answer - usmbacker - 05-15-2017 02:05 PM

Well, she just blew all those liberal endorsement deals. Kudos to Kara McCullough to sticking to truth and principle.

Quote:25-year-old scientist Kára McCullough won the crown at the Miss USA pageant on Sunday night while surprising and angering liberals with her interview answers on health care and feminism.

McCullough works at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, was born in Italy, studied nuclear chemistry, hosts a community outreach program for children to learn more about science and wants to inspire more women to get into STEM fields, according to the Washington Post.

However, when she said she believed health care access was a privilege and not a right for U.S. citizens, she touched off a strong reaction from people expecting a more progressive answer. She called it a privilege and connected insurance access to jobs, the Post reports:

In typical beauty pageant fashion, the Q&A portion required contestants to address controversial issues. McCullough's answers to both questions–about health care and feminism–sparked debate on social media. The first query: "Do you think affordable health care for all U.S. citizens is a right or a privilege and why?"

"I'm definitely going to say it's a privilege," McCullough responded. "As a government employee, I am granted health care. And I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have jobs. So therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we're given the opportunities to have health care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide."

She was advocating that all American citizens should have - at least - government jobs with healthcare an included benefit.

Not sure what the anger is.

I wonder how many heads exploded. LOL

To even ask a question like that proves that the media won't ever stop politicizing life.

Seems to me that she was advocating that people should have 'jobs' with heath care as a benefit. Not really sure how you think she's saying everyone should have a 'government job'. Just because she has a gov job doesn't mean that she feels everyone should, and her words do not imply such either.

To mirror her words...
I was in the military and had free health care as a benefit of the job. I feel health care should be a benefit of having a job, and I think we should cultivate a society where people have the opportunities to work.
No one should take that statement to mean that I feel everyone should be in the military.

Do you understand how sentences work?
Stating you're a gov employee and you have free health care does not imply that every comment you make about jobs in the future means you are talking about government jobs.

At no point did she make a comment about everyone having gov jobs.

She was suggesting we provide the opportunity to have a job (and the healthcare that comes with it) to all the American citizens worldwide.

The only reasonable way to accomplish that, would be to provide government "jobs" to all those who were unemployed and unable to find suitable work.

No, you just need jobs. Whether they are government or private jobs brought back by lower taxes is irrelevant.

Not sure what the anger is.

A look into the mind of a liberal and the logic - or lack thereof, used to form opinions.

I agree. Some folks just look for a reason to be pissed off. I put this in that pile.

we're not upset with Miss USA's comment. We're amazed by MplsBison implying that Miss USA was saying everyone should have a gov job. Which anyone with eyeballs and understanding how the english language works, would realize that was not being implied.
She was saying everyone should have a job... not that everyone should have a gov job. But some people cannot read words without injecting their opinions into other peoples words.

That's one of the main reasons the left can't debate anymore. They change every sentence to mean something else and then debate that modified meaning.

If that's what she meant, then she worded her statement poorly!

First you misunderstand her words, then you misunderstand/twist my words.

I did not say that she thinks every person should have a government job.

I said that she thinks every person should have the opportunity to have -- at least -- a government job that includes healthcare benefits. That is what she implied. Because there is no such thing as giving every person a private job, therefore she has to have meant a government job.

And yes, government job, not just any job. Otherwise she would not have started the statement off by mentioning her government job!

She worded her response perfectly, you're the one trying to twist it to mean something it doesnt.

What she said: "As a government employee, I am granted health care. I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have jobs. So therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we're given the opportunities to have health care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide."

Lets break this down. There are three sentences:

Quote:As a government employee, I am granted health care.

This is a factual statement about herself.

Quote:I see firsthand that for one to have health care, you need to have jobs.

This is a statement about her realization that access to healthcare is available when you have a job. Note... you can get healthcare benefits at any full time job, it might not be good, but you'll have it.

Quote:So therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we're given the opportunities to have health care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide.

This is an opinion that in order for everyone to have healthcare everyone should have a job.

She only talked about government jobs once. In her first sentence which she was talking about herself. Every other time she uses the word 'jobs' she specifically does not include the word government. She made the conscious decision not to say 'government jobs'.

You are trying to insist that jobs = government jobs. SHE NEVER SAID THAT.

If she was trying to imply that everyone should have 'at least' government jobs, she would have used those words and said it. She did not use those words because that is not what she meant.

You are the the one who is trying to change the meaning of her words to imply 'government jobs' when she did not at any point in time talk about others having government jobs.

She said what she meant. Stop trying to make her words mean something they do not.

(05-16-2017 09:46 AM)MplsBison Wrote:  That is what she implied.

Stop trying to decide what she 'implied' and instead accept the words she chose to use. You are not in her head, the only thing any of us have to go on is what words she chose to use and the definition of those words. There is no 'implied' meaning -- there is the meaning that the words have as described by the dictionary and the meaning according to grammar when sentences are constructed.

(05-16-2017 10:52 AM)q5sys Wrote:  This is an opinion that in order for everyone to have healthcare everyone should have a job.

And such a statement only makes logical sense in the context of giving everyone who is unimployed, and would like a job, a government "job". (job in quotations, because it may need to be that they get paid without doing much of anything ... there may simply not be enough actual work to go around)

Then throw in that she started the statement by mentioning that she has a government job.

Should be easy to grasp.
