Better Call Saul - Machiavelli - 05-09-2017 04:21 AM

Best episode of the season so far. Although I do love the other story line with Emmentraut a little better. We got our you can't handle the truth moment and it came off great. I also think we had a little Godfather 2 court room scene with the ex wife showing up. Last I think the law firm partner was secretly rooting for jimmy. Saw a little of himself. The Charlie Hustle bit. All in all. Excellent.

Considering that it's been telegraphed all season, I found it predictable. But I suppose you like things that reinforce your pre-conceived notions of the world.

A shadow of Breaking Bad at its peak.

You wish you were Slippin' Jimmy.

....or some of us just don't delve so deeply into entertainment as you. I have found it very entertaining also. I never expected it to be as good as a spin off.

I thought about for about 10 seconds. Is that delving deeply here?

EVERYBODY wants Better Call Saul to be better than Breaking Bad. It should be better. But it's not.

The story isn't as interesting as the one in Breaking Bad, but the quality of acting and character development is just as strong.

Fair enough. They just need to pick it up a bit.

Excellent show, Odenkirk is a talented dude. I agree, last night's episode was the best of this season. And I think you're right about Hamlin, I think he's having an epiphany about the liabilities Chuck presents not only to those in his firm who he impacts with his erratic behavior but also to those who love him and wish only that he gets better.

What was really cool was that while Chuck was making light of the moment, accusing Jimmy of having Perry Mason aspirations, Jimmy really was having a Perry Mason moment.

I think it stands on its own without needing to be compared to BB. I also think the acting and directing is overall just a tad bit slicker. Odenkirk is more talented than anyone on BB.

Take it to The Sports Bar.

Breaking Bad is seen in some quarters as the best tv show ever created.

Expecting Saul to be better than that is extraordinarily high expectations.

I agree. It was starting to look like it was going to sputter out, but it's really getting some traction and becoming very enjoyable.

He's more of a Real Housewives' guy.

I don't get other people cracking on a thread either. Don't click on it and it could have the potential of bringing us together a little bit. Not a bad thing.

Im not going to start a new thread...but...Im watching Golaith on Amazon. Great cast and story. Billy Bob Thorton and William Hurt are great in this.

He's mad because there will be one less thread about how minorities and liberals are ruining the world on the front page.

The thing about that episode is that for Charles McGill to be as literate as he was about EM radiation, he should've known that he was no more at risk from a battery than he was from a fountain pen. That said, the notion of EM sensitivity is irrational to begin with, so he's clearly deranged, but chucking the battery on the floor in horror kind of ruined it for me. Sensitive tools could probably register the radiation from a cell phone sans battery, but would likely register nothing above background for the battery alone.

I wouldn't say he chucked it on the floor, and even if he did I interpreted it not as "oh wow a battery I need to throw it away because of my EHS" but as "oh s*** Jimmy got the best of me."

Phenomenal episode either way. The first two and a half seasons were all building up to last night until it reached its boiling point and spilled over. The ironic thing about it all is that even if Chuck is an a-hole, he's still right. Jimmy really is guilty of fraud and everything he talked about in his rant, it's just that the great Charles McGill got out-lawyered by Slippin' Jimmy.
