Dallas Baptist - CougarRed - 04-30-2017 08:31 AM

Continuing the P6 theme, what about adding Dallas Baptist for baseball?

They play D2 in everything else. Baseball is their only D1 sport.

They've been an affilate member of the WAC. They are currently affiliated with the MVC.

They've made the NCAA baseball tournament in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

In 2011, they advanced to a Super Regional (Round of 16). Three other times, they lost in the Regional Final (Round of 32).

I don't think they're needed. The addition of Wichita State caps the baseball conference nicely. If the AAC has a Dallas team someday, I'd hope its SMU when they see the great opportunity that exists in one of the top conferences.

RE: Dallas Baptist - Chappy - 04-30-2017 09:28 AM

SMU should just buy Dallas Baptist's baseball program, lol.

Dallas Baptist - Pony94 - 04-30-2017 09:44 AM

We will never have baseball

RE: Dallas Baptist - AusTxPony - 04-30-2017 10:04 AM

SMU: No room for a campus field, already have more females than males on campus so Title 9 prevents addition of men's teams w/o women's to compensate. Would rather see M/W Lacrosse. Dallas Baptist is a good idea. We could adopt them.

Now this is funny. I think this is a serious post.

What's funny is that no one ever knows when you're being serious. [Image: Groucho_Marx.gif]

There is no Round of 32 in baseball. There isn't even one in basketball. At least no self-respecting human calls the 2nd round that anymore.

I don't see anything negative that could possibly come from it. They wouldn't be paid a dime of our TV money, are in an AAC market, and would strengthen our baseball conference.

RE: Dallas Baptist - rabidTU2 - 04-30-2017 11:45 AM

Its at least worth a look IMO. They have a very nice on-campus facility and a good history of performance. Balancing out the league geographically is very important since travel IS. Also keeping a larger presence in Dallas and Texas is a good thing even if its not in a major sport. I agree with CougarRed at least as a "possible" add someday.

We are at the point that a lot of programs look at us as a conference they'd like to join and thats a good place to be. IMO

RE: Dallas Baptist - Bearcats#1 - 04-30-2017 01:59 PM

no

RE: Dallas Baptist - Bearcats#1 - 04-30-2017 02:02 PM

The only programs worthy of being added to the P6 and AAC at this time are:
BYU
Army due to battle with Navy and the contract being a bargaining chip of our new tv contract
Air Force to get all three service academies into the fold

That's about it.

Boise is a one trick pony and basically community college in a state of about 10 people
SDSU is too far away and we don't need another football team that doesn't have the guts or wherewithal to build an on campus fb stadium

I'd consider Col St....maybe

Imo, Aresco wouldn't want to poach the MVC again. He seems to be very hesitant to project that image.

Consequently, I don't think DBU offers enough to risk putting that perception out there.

I think Aresco will keep his powder dry until the next shake up.

RE: Dallas Baptist - Carolina_Low_Country - 04-30-2017 04:02 PM

BYU, Air Force, Army, are all home runs.
Plus VCU and Dayton for Air Force and Army
The question is who is 16
Colorado State?
Boise State?
Rice?
Southern Miss?

RE: Dallas Baptist - AusTxPony - 04-30-2017 04:08 PM

We already have affiliated members in Men's swimming. It's not like a football or bball add. We had affliated members from SEC when in CUSA... in soccer I think, South Carolina and someone else. It's not an actual joining of the AAC.

CUSA has South Carolina, Kentucky and New Mexico for Soccer.
The SEC doesn't have Soccer, but several MWC schools do and UNM still sends their soccer team East to CUSA.

Agreed.

I wouldn't simply dismiss the DBU idea out of hand, but it needs to be looked at very closely over a period of time. Wichita State is an obvious, major player on a national level in MBB. Dallas Baptist has a very strong baseball program, but it's really not equivalent. They've never made it to Omaha, for example.

I believe the AAC (in baseball) will take the next 2-3 years and see what the ramifications are for scheduling a 9-team league. If it's no big deal, then the DBU scenario becomes a solution in search of a problem. But each weekend of conference competition will require one team to either be idle (not good at all) or schedule OOC. Let's see what that looks like for a couple of years and then we can move forward.

But I'll go ahead and say that if AAC ever did need a #10 for baseball, you could do a lot worse than DBU and it's difficult to see where or how you could do much better.

RE: Dallas Baptist - swagsurfer11 - 05-01-2017 02:52 AM

SMU should just start a baseball program and put Dallas Baptist out of business.
