Fred Sims Jr. declares for draft - gleadley - 04-08-2017 04:14 PM

We'll see how that works out for him. Might be a rough go for CSU next year. Averaged 65.3 ppg as a team last season. Sims & Palmer accounted for over half of those points (combined 33.9 ppg).

Palmer graduates. Sims leaves. Yikes.

Yeah, I saw this a couple days ago and was a bit surprised about it. They have more players next year than what there are spots so I knew someone wouldn't be returning.
They have three players who redshirted this past season, which two of the three should be immediate contributors. As good of a scorer as Sims was at times, he also was a turnover machine and a ball hog. I don't think it'll be as big as an issue as you may think. If Sims Jr played in a controlled manner, and played within the team.. then yes, it would hurt. But they have enough returning and newcomers that I think they'll be fine and win more games (it wouldn't take much).

Like gl mentioned.. I think Palmer will hurt more with his graduation.

Good luck to Fred Sims Jr. If he doesn't get drafted, I would like to see the Mavs invite him to training camp, as if anyone can get the most of UDFA, it's Rick Carlisle. As for ChiSt, I hope they have recruits ready to go to replace Sims/Palmer. The WAC will greatly benefit with no teams being sub-250 RPI but at least avoiding any teams in the 300s would be a good start. Sadly it looks like CSU will be an anchor once again.

Good player but I'd rather build a versatile, sustainable offensive system. Best of luck to Fred.

He is okay as long as he does not hire an agent. He has until May 24th to change his mind. He is not in the top 100 of any NBA draft board and there are 75 early entrants to the draft to this point. He may have a chance of playing in the Philippines someday, but he is not an NBA prospect.

I think he was told he could make a lot of money in Shanghai or Harbin

How are his grades?

He had a 3.0 GPA so he did pretty well with his books.

Didn't know there was a pro BB league in China. Never thought about it, I guess I always just really hear about Europe. Makes sense I guess.

Currently mobile....but not necessarily upwardly.

There is but as international slot are limited to 2 per team, you have to be at the peak of your game to get signed in China. Look at Stephon Marbury (retiring next year with a statue commemorating him) and more recently Jimmer Fredette as the best case scenarios of playing in China.

Just saw a list of 73 players that withdrew from the NBA draft and Fred Sims Jr. is on the list. I guess that means he is coming back to Chicago State for another year. That would be good news for Chicago State basketball.
