Bruiser to Indiana - bdragon - 04-01-2017 09:11 PM

Reports say that later this week, IU will announce Bru as an assistant on Archie Miller's staff.

That is a bit surprising. I really thought he would be head coach somewhere or not coach. The only exception I figured was on the table was an assistant for Cal. Also surprised at IU since he seemed semi close with Crean and was at a some practices for him this past season. Good for Bru though. Best of luck for him.

I'm guessing if IU turns it around with Bruiser on staff, he then could get a better head coaching job again in 2-3 years.

Eh. He is pretty much limited at this point in his career. He has been at 2 places for 20 combined years. Teams know what they are getting with him. Unfortunately for him, the game is changing and his style of basketball is being eliminated. Realistically this is really the peak he can do (unless he joins Cal's UK staff). Bruiser is a high character guy who knows how to coach defense. But that is it. If he gets another head coaching job, I have a hard time believing it will be at a higher level than where Drexel was/is.

This hire has been getting some great reviews on Social Media. Good to see Bru back in college basketball.

I'd really be surprised. The only Dance experience he has in all of his years was because of the team that he was handed by Calipari.

Personally, I think that this is the perfect situation for Bruiser to be in. His ego is too big to be a head coach and let anyone else do anything, but as a second guy on the bench whose responsibility is to run the defense, he can do a good job. Like Dan said: he cant do much else. Lord knows the guy can't coach an offense.

Some of these video's were alarming? Do they hurt our program?

- terrible tv contract

Last night there was a great Espn's 30/30 on Calapari and Bruiser was in a lot of it. I would check it out but it a shame they only had him listed as his assistant coach instead of his full career i.e Drexel nod.

Reviving an old thread. Read yesterday that Bruiser is now an assistant at Kentucky.

Yup, I think its a couple weeks old. Good for him. Honestly is the landing place I figured he would go after being let go here. After his public sideline spats last season with Archie I didnt figure he was going to stick around IU much longer. I suspect he is likely too old and dated (style wise) for a D1 job at this point. He still has value as an assistant with a lot of experience though. Will be interesting to see how well he works with 1 and done players who dont really want to be there nor do they want to focus on defense.
