Mohajir worked with him at FAU, plus he was cleared from the Prostitute thing.

I hope they pay him enough he doesn't have to resort to such things again.

The annual open to the public presser at 10am tomorrow. It's usually more fun when they let the general public ask questions...hopefully they do that this year.

Good Press Conference. Mohajir was his usual overly excited self. He spent a good couple of minutes trying to goad Louisville into giving us a home basketball game, which is typical Mohajir. Balado said we would play Louisville style basketball.

RE: Mike Balado, new A-State MBB coach - chiefsfan - 03-20-2017 11:51 AM

Balado will take a slight pay cut to come here. Contract is 4 years 375K per year. Buyout for year 1 is 1 Million. 500K for years 2 and 3 and 300K for year 4.

This is a great hire. I think Balado can take StAte to some new heights.

I agree. Top assistant from an elite program is a coup. This guy appears to be the real deal. Genuine, great recruiter, and ran Louisville's practices for Pitinio. Pitino's endorsement per Mohajir means a ton.

This is the 30th Pitino assistant to be come a D1 head coach . . . and apparently he told Mohajir and crew that he's top 3 of all those assistants.

I watched the presser. He's new to the head coaching gig but I like the way he spoke and what he says he wants. Of course all of that is coach speak. The proof will be in whether or not he can hang on to 2 recruits from Mcasland's year here and if he can find more quality players for next season. I'm sure he can coach but recruiting for Louisville and stAte are 2 different animals.

This is true - but he was a Sun Belt assistant for FAU and FIU so he knows the territory and what stAte has to sell as a basketball program. Bottom line, he's likely the best recruiter we've ever had at stAte.

I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to sign both those guys. Eaton is one thing, but the Russian kid has yet to even answer a single phone call from the school since McCasland left. He's got to actually give the coach a chance for him to be able to come here.

RE: Mike Balado, new A-State MBB coach - sdcritter - 03-20-2017 09:17 PM

True on the Russian kid. I'm more interested in what he can bring in on his own.

Trooper Taylor might beg to differ.....

When the conference is doing poorly I hear complaints about the commissioner, the schedule requirements, officiating, the dates for conference games, the tournament format, etc.

When Sun Belt hoops and before that the American South, have been good more than one school had a good coach.

Hire well and you get good results. Hopefully AState has done its part.

See MVC for example of this right now. One really good coach, one good coach and one upcoming coach and bunch of JAGs is why the league is down.

Might be closer than you think.

If Wichita State bolts, Missouri State is going to start looking for the exit door. MVC could really fall apart.
