The same reason the city turned down a sweet 14,000-seat minor league stadium. Most of the taxpayers here suck, and don't give a sh*t if people leave for Raleigh or Charlotte to get jobs.

The winningest teams are going to have the best crowds in general, so to make attendance the #1 priority, we host it at the #1 seeds school. Sure, UNCW at #1 will get more fans than NU at #1, but we can fill an arena if it's a big game and we are good. If let's say UNCW is a #8 and W&M is #7. I don't think Virginia Beach will help much.
I like that we have a tourney that everyone gets together for a long weekend. But if attendance is the concern, then there's no better option than higher seeds hosting their games, since we are so spread out. I don't like it, but it must be on the conference's radar.

The vote though, was for a baseball stadium. Outside of baseball games and outdoor concerts... the possibilities are limited there. However, for an arena there's soooooooo many more options.
You could have everything from monster truck competitions to conventions of all types. The possibilities are nearly endless for money making opportunities without seasonal restrictions.

Put the tourney at the Boston Garden with the team we'll have next year and a top 4 finish at the end of the year, we'll have excellent attendance.
Big cities in the Northeast are about events and winning when it comes to college games.
Alums and students would come out big time for the games at the Garden.
Look at our attendance in Pittsburgh for the tourney game vs Notre Dame. We filled our entire section and then some clad in red shirts. We dwarfed ND crowd.
Why?
Because it was a big event and we had waited 24 years to get there.
We sold out Matthews for Michigan State.
Seeing Elon or W&M in January or February, even if we're in first place isn't going to pack our arena. That's just the way it is for now.

Even though Boston is cold in March, I think there are enough fans who would see it as a fun destination city thats not that hard to get to by plane. Playing in the Garden would be awesome for the players and fans. The problem though, Im guessing, is I dont think the Garden would bid on the CAA because of generally low attendance year to year.
Youd have a decent chance of a Northern CAA tourney maybe in Providence, where they are more desperate to book things...but that will lower your attendance again, because southern schools wont care about going to Providence, even though I think its a fine city.
The allure of a pseudo Spring Break is definitely something that gets people excited. Some of that is satisfied with Virginia Beach (even though its not really warm yet). Charleston is warmer, but many people just seem disinterested for some reason (lack of knowledge about how awesome it is...and the whole North Charleston thing).
Maybe they should just bite the bullet and go for Tampa or something.
