Wac post season thread - DoubleRSU - 03-14-2017 10:49 PM

CSUB up 27-12 at Cal. 7:25 left in the half. Pretty impressive so far.

RE: Wac post season thread - Trod0 - 03-14-2017 10:50 PM

They're looking good so far, hopefully they can keep it up

RE: Wac post season thread - NMSUPistolPete - 03-15-2017 12:20 AM

Bakersfield is always quick out of the gates with their pressure defense but they can't maintain that intensity for 40 minutes. Barnes still needs more depth of talent if he wants to continue to play that style.

What a game!! What an upset for the WAC and Bako!!

Held on for a 8 point win.

Spot on. First thought with 19 point lead was..."Dont blow it."

Hell of a win for Bakersfield. Roadrunners roasting a First Four Out team on the road.

Barnes needs at least 10 guys of equal talent if he wants to run teams off the court with their swarming defense. I like Bakersfield's intensity but they need to control their fouling. They need to learn time and score. Don't foul if your are beat to the rim. And, don't foul inside 5 seconds of the shot clock.

The NIT is about who wants to be there. The first round eliminates the ones unmotivated and the frauds. Cal is both - they were give a #1 seed and the home court path to the final four, and don't show up. Still a good win for Bakersfield. I think they can make some noise. Colorado State however will be a much tougher opponent, and they will show up and play with heart.

Go Roadrunners!

Cal was playing without their two top scorers Ivan Rabb and Jaylon Bird but still, big win for Bako

RE: Wac post season thread - MWC Tex - 03-15-2017 09:20 AM

Congrats CSU-Bakersfield. Way to rep the WAC.

RE: Wac post season thread - MWC Tex - 03-15-2017 09:50 AM

Question for any CSUB fans.
I know that getting into an auto bid conference help with recruiting, but are people glad to be in the WAC than the Big West? It seems like CSUB has set itself apart from other Big West schools by being in the WAC. Especially, when the conference is rated much higher than the Big West.

Very good win for the program. Second win over Cal in the last three seasons. Barnes really has the team going in the right direction. Playing two nationally televised games in four nights does not hurt. Attendance was good this year, they had four sellouts during the regular season. They just need to add a little more offensive talent, a little more depth. Hopefully the momentum from the past two seasons will land them a talented recruit or two.

The game with Colorado State should be entertaining. CSU has an RPI of 64, 2nd best in the MWC. CSUB an RPI of 68, 2nd best in the WAC. Common opponents during the season were NMSU and Fresno State. CSU spilt with Fresno State and beat NMSU in a close game. CSUB beat Fresno State and had the one home win against NMSU. CSUB should keep it close with their defense. A win would be very good for the WAC. The WAC is closing the gap on the MWC.

I've been calling it for a while now. The #WACisBACK. Next year our confernce will be very entertaining. Hopefully Seattle gets it together. That's the other WAC school I really want to see lift off. If NMSU, GCU, CSUB, UVU and Seattle U can maintain playing good. The WAC has pretty decent foundation. In some pretty major cities.

Need to either build a better facility or play big games in the downtown arena that looks like a D1 college arena. The facilities at Bakersfield look terrible. Majerle even made a sarcastic comment about the locker rooms after the game that GCU won in Bakersfield.

Honestly, I never hear BW even come up in conversation anymore. FWIW, I'm just a baseball season ticket holder, but not a big doner or someone I'd label an insider who is privy to the inner circle workings and thoughts. I just think fans want to be successful at whatever conference. I think improvement is also big on the wish list. We had a grest history in DII. When we moved to DI, i think some following....lowered expectations, and rightly so....to an extent, and for a time. While nobody is thinking NCAA champs like the DII (in MBB anyway) days, I think success is pumping new life into an old fan base. I think we see things like NCAA tourney appearances, NIT wins, etc as constant improvement. That's my take. So, i think most are happy with the WAC. I am anyway. Also to be noted, ehen we began DI, there really wasn't a WAC option, like it exists now (different times=different WAC). The BW wss really the only conference fit at that time. Times have changed now.

I heard the same comment and thought Majerle should be the last one making it. Pitino said GCU has high school locker rooms in his post-game presser this year. Hahaha
