It's no-brainer. WSU should have come in with Navy to complete the Navy membership. Just makes sense. Tigers better bow-up, things will just get tougher.

to the ncaa southern region

This better increase our tv payout, if not then don't add them

Even if the TV payout is a wash, it's worth it. WSU will strengthen the AAC SOS AND the TV credits from the tourney because WSU likely gives the AAC another tourney bid. And with an improved SOS, it conceivably could mean more than just one more bid. Further it will do away with the situation we faced this year playing Cincy only once at Cincy because it will balance the conference schedule.

So shortsighted. Marshall is WSU. When he leaves, what is WSU's value?

In the last 25 years they've gone to the tourney six time. Five of them have come in the last five years under Gregg.

I'd put my confidence in WSU remaining competitive vs. ECU, Tulane, USF becoming competitive or SMU, UH & UCF remaining competitive - that's half the ACC. The AAC needs BB strength & WSU provides it.

That would sell out the forum with all the Greg Marshall fans among Tiger Nation.

RE: Gregg Marshall coming to Memphis? - salukiblue - 03-04-2017 10:03 AM

Again, I just disagree. There is no recruiting base out there, and no historical history of success.

SIU was hot stuff from 2001-2006 but can't sniff a winning record after losing Bruce Weber and Matt Painter.

No one in the AAC currently has the fan support of WSU. They've sold out every home game for the last several years 10K+.

Is there a better fit out there?

It is a fix for now and with the way things are going now is all that matters.

Put them in an arena the size of FEF and see how many sell out games they'd have. Then again, put Memphis in a 10,000 seat arena and see how many sell out or close to sell out games we'd have.

Maybe VCU. They have been successful with several coaches now

The Koch Brothers love WSU basketball. They will fund a new basketball coach.

Interesting.

Long term not really sure this is best for Wichita State. While overall basketball, especially Memphis, UConn, Temple and Cincy, would be nice step up for them, MVC is not bad and is more regionally friendly thinking ldlwn the road.

Well know firsthand from coaching searches that all the money, facilities, history, and support doesn't guaranee getting a sure shot coach.

I see WSU's success more as a by product of Marshall than some institutional history of success.

Even this year, some folks have WSU on the bubble or out unless they win Arch Madness.

I posted a thread tied to this article, but slightly off topic. John Martin pointed something out on Twitter that made me scratch my head...

WSU has the same issue with the MVC that we have in the AAC - weak conference SOS. The AAC needs WSU to complete the Navy membership, eliminate the Cincy away-but-not-at-home type scheduling we had this year - and WSU needs the AAC to help their SOS. Would be good for both. And WSU has been supporting their BB program long before Marshall.
