Why would he do anything to jeopardize the contract he already has? Dude would be insane to try to do that after already having the county on the books for literally ANY change made to the current setup.

If the Top Division doesn't participate, it doesn't matter. I honestly could care less about Pro/Rel, because lord knows it wouldn't do well with the socialist mindset our sporting culture has, but this is just further proof that the MLS want no part of it as a whole.

Yup. I won't pretend to know much, if anything, about soccer. But I've probably spent, on average, a day a week in Columbus for work the past 10 years and I've never heard anyone discuss the Crew. Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard anyone discuss the Bengals or Browns. Every now and then I'll get some Reds discussion. But otherwise it's OSU 24/7.

Arguably, Columbus was never a major league town. They have a rabid allegiance to scarlet and gray football, first and foremost. Any pro franchise, major or minor, will toil forever in the shadow of the horseshoe.
Unfortunately, we seem to live in the opposite universe in Cincinnati--regardless of how bad the major league franchises are, they get top billing. It's a deep seated cultural difference between our two cities.

Problem for Columbus is the Crew isn't drawing well and hasnt for the last few years. Combine their decreased attendance with a stadium that is in a giant isolated fairgrounds parking lot and you don't have a recipe for growth. While they were one of the first and the first single soccer purpose stadium, that was 20 years ago and they put it in a no man's land. They desperately need to relocate into better part of town and a stadium that can improve attendance.

I would agree with you IF he hadn't already pulverized the good faith argument with the last deal. It would be career suicide for any politician or holder of public office to hitch their wagon to a stadium deal at the amount they'd be asking for ($500,000,000+ in value/incentives) and the city and county have already kind of shoo-shooed a deal asking for a fraction of that. I bet Lindner et al would be crying tears of joy if Brown threatened to leave.

Yeah, I am an FC Dallas season Ticket holder. Getting people in the seats is a struggle, but the FCD Front Office (Clark/Dan Hunt<--yeah, those Hunts) put in little to no effort to market the team in one of the fastest growing cities & hottest youth soccer markets in the US. The Frisco/Plano area is booming and FCD has an outstanding academy program. With the DFW Metroplex having close to 7 million people; you'd think they could fill a tiny 20K stadium...but nope. The main gripe around here is the lack of any "big name" talent, but the FCD has 5 players that are regulars for their National Teams (including Kellyn Acosta, who was an FCD Academy product now USMNT player). I think there is a lot the FCD Front Office can learn from what FC Cincinnati was able to do.
You'd have to think the move from Columbus to Austin is a good thing for FC Cincinnati's MLS bid.

If Austin falls through and the owner of The Crew sells to Lindner, is that a way to get around the soccer-specific stadium requirement? Seems Lindner can give Columbus ownership a very attractive offer while saving on overall expenses by not having to build a stadium up front.
