UConn to Big East? - stever20 - 02-15-2017 10:59 AM

http://www.fanragsports.com/cbb/rothstein-uconn-big-east-recent-discussions-expansion/

the big question will be what does UConn do with football?

RE: UConn to Big East? - HuskyU - 02-15-2017 11:09 AM

There was never a doubt in my mind that the Big East schools have wanted UCONN all along, despite the naysayers on that HolyLand board.

Rothstein has legit sources. Aresco should be on the phone with AAC Presidents and Wichita as we speak.

UConn-Army FB would be decent, would secure the long term future of the MAC definitely.

Thank goodness!

The story sounds like it has legs, especially if the one source is reliable.

Quote:The Big East and UConn have had recent discussions about the Huskies joining the conference, multiple sources told FanRag Sports.

FanRag Sports reported last week that UConn had looked into joining the conference and one source confirmed on Wednesday that the Big East would take the Huskies in all sports.

RE: UConn to Big East? - MinerInWisconsin - 02-15-2017 11:14 AM

Would the AAC adjust and keep UConn FB? If not, would they go for AFA since they were willing at one point in the past?

RE: UConn to Big East? - kmdhoya - 02-15-2017 11:14 AM

I don't know about this. Big East members and fans are all on the same page. Things are good. Why bring in a bunch of disgruntled UConn football fans into the equation.

It has some legs but there are a couple of considerations on UConn's side. Do they want to give up any hopes of moving to the ACC or another P5 conference if an invite becomes available? As I posted in another thread, I would expect the Big East to demand a long-term commitment from UConn, taking their membership past the expiration of the Big 12 GOR -- the next likely time for P5 shuffling and more re-alignment.

The downside for UConn is that Syracuse isn't in the Big East anymore.

UConn recruits at a MAC level(Football) so that is a good fit.

Notre Dame football is 0-1 vs UCONN. Take that nugget to the bank!

Congrats, doesn't change the fact you recruit at a MAC level.

Can't say that I blame UConn one bit here. The AAC media deal is just backbreaking for programs who invest as much into athletics as UConn (and Cincinnati for that matter) do. Moreover, UConn fans will be more enthusiastic about playing regional opponents such as St. John's, Villanova, Providence and Seton Hall as opposed to Tulsa, Tulane, UCF/USF, etc.

Nor does it change the fact that you lost to a MAC-level team. 07-coffee3

UConn can realistically compete for national championships in basketball. UConn knows it's out of the picture for national championships in football. So the priority has to be to do what's best for basketball. I see a move coming.

I actually have thanked UConn, it got Weis out of town...

You would have had the 8th best class in the MAC. Maybe the Sunbelt is a better choice because you would have had the 6th best class in the conference.

Well, UConn could definitely be enough to reset the Big East's current deal favorably.

I have to wonder, though...UConn collected from the C7 exits and got a favorable cut among the AAC remnants. I highly doubt they get to just keep all of that money. Be it coming back to the AAC or the C7, yeah, I don't think UConn commands all of that.

This is going to be very interesting to watch, if legit. I suspect the AAC might actually want to keep UConn as a football-only member. The backfilling for football is the hiccup: you have no big eastern schools to take their place. No doubt you might have Wichita State ready to fill in for the other sports, but, where's the suitable football substitute?

I suspect, though...MAC will take these guys. UMass just wasn't pulling anything for the conference, but UConn will. This could open the door for James Madison or Stony Brook, too. If JMU is the case, bring popcorn.

Any connection to the big Russian ship 30 miles from Connecticut?

Interesting idea, but the timing doesn't seem right for this to happen now.

Also, how much is the AAC's exit fee?
