Huge Road trip for NMSU - dancingNMSUaggie - 01-24-2017 02:08 PM

Anytime you are on the road it's hard but Utah Valley and Seattle have been improving as of late and if the Aggies take this road trip I think the WAC regular season is probably in the bag. I can't see GCU or Bakersfield running the table the way they have been playing either.

Just need to keep doing our thing.

Ten more games in conference plus NNMC. Winning out would make us 29-2. Then winning the WAC tournament would make it 31-2.

What kind of seed would that bring?

You're one game off. Actually there are nine regular season WAC games left. If NMSU wins out all the way through the WAC tournament, they will be 30-2.

Thanks for the catch. (I used the schedule on Real Time RPI and they double up the Chicago State game, also showing a game with UI-Chicago the same day!) I'd forgotten that.01-lauramac2

Anyway, does anyone think there is anything better than a 13 seed, which is what most bracket projections seem to be now?

Seattle looked good VS. Grand Canyon. Also blew the Bakersfield game on the road but then lost pretty bad at home vs. UMKC. Seattle is always a confusing team every year. You never know what you are going to get on any given night.

In spite of a potentially impressive record I'm not confident we would get better than a 13 seed - maybe even 14.

First, our games against Grand Canyon don't count as wins according to the NCAA, as they are still D2. Also NNM is another D2 non-game for the NCAA. Then, there is the NCAA's track record of rewarding schedule over wins. Our strength of schedule is 256 now. Even though the WAC has improved, it's still not very good (the WAC rated, 24 out of 33?). Making it worse, some of our better victories don't look quite as impressive now (UNM, Ariz St, UTEP).

So my fear is we get dinged on schedule.

That is of course assuming we GET there. I think the WAC Tourney will be a very tough challenge for us. Bakersfield scares me.

It was my understanding that GCU only counted as a D2 the first year of their transition.

I think - for RPI calculation, Grand Canyon is still not counted. I see in one of the latest we are shown with a record of 18-2.

Arizona Christian and Eastern are D2 schools, so if GCU was included the number would be odd for total win. 17-2.

This road trip is even bigger. CSUB and NMSU probably playing for the WAC regular season championship this Thursday. GCU is out of picture
