Marshall, the No. 3 seed, upended No. 6 Toledo, 68-56, Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference women’s basketball tournament at Gund Arena. All four of the higher seeds advanced. The winners of Wednesday’s games advance to Friday’s semifinals. Top seed Bowling Green downed Miami (Ohio), 84-68, and No. 4 Eastern Michigan knocked off Ball State, 72-64, to advance. The Falcons and the Eagles will play in Friday’s first semifinal at noon. No. 2 Kent State held off a pesky Ohio team, 93-74, and will face Marshall at 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Net. "We’re excited to be in Cleveland and excited to still be alive in the tournament," said Marshall coach Royce Chadwick. "Toledo is a great basketball team and they’re well-coached. If we just get by Kent I think we atleast earn a NIT bid. If not then the season is for not. Thats another reason I want C-USA, you have multi-bids on both mens and womens sides and even NIT bids.
