Good bye Seniors and Good Luck. Now what? - 12thmonarch - 01-02-2017 10:07 AM

Happy New Year fellas. Was playing the 2016 memorable moments last night and realized that we will be losing some good talent on both sides of the ball. Fellonte's shoes were filled by Davila,Byrum and others just fine. This year we are losing some big talent in Ricks, Coward, Anthony and Carter(didn't know of him until this year). I know we have some good WR's that can may be right away not replace Zach but atleast start getting time and start improving. On the defensive side is where i am completely blind and clueless as to who might end up filling in for Ricks, Coward and others.Any thoughts?

Isaiah Worthy, is most likely to fill in for Ricks, hopefully Wilder can stay healthy enough to help out too. There are some good red-shirts at LB that didn't play this year as well. We are actually pretty stocked at safety (Noye has barley played). Coward is not easy to replace, but we did have Ryan Londree in a constant rotation most of the season.

Reports are that Zach Lackman is an absolute stud. Could have played MLB this year. Priester and Young are good too. Derek Wilder may go back to TE.

Pat Toal is also a stud. Not a big drop off from Coward. Denzel Williams will be a big time safety.

next year, at LB we will be sort on experience but much bigger in physical size
Lackman 6'2" 220 Red-shirt Freshman
Worthy 6'1" 220 Red-shirt Junior
Branch 6'2" 220 Junior
Young 6'3" Red-shirt Freshman
Priester 6'2" Red-shirt Freshman

I think we will continue to play 4-2-5 quite a bit, conference play vs Charlotte, Marshall, the F_Us, Rice we will probably use 4-3-4 alignments

Thanks folks. Glad we have some nice talent in the wings coming to help this coming season. I hope these guys are ready as we have two big games and from that Bowl game i watched Justin Fuente at VT won't be easy to deal with. Speaking of Londree reminded of Brandon Tyson from Midlothian who i see is converted to DT.

Worthy did not travel with the team to the Bahamas Bowl. He may not be on the team anymore.

IF you are talking about Sean Carter our safety, he was a walk on and is only a sophomore. We still have Davilla too. Sean Carter came out of no where to play really well. Toal will replace Coward. I hope Tyson will develop to be a good NT, he has very good size.

Is this inside info?

Toal is solid but coward was a legitimate stud at nose. But improvements from the other guys will help.

There is also AJ Davison, the Juco from Santa Rosa who came in June. He is as big, or bigger than Coward at 6'6", 325, but I don't know about his talent level.

Thought he was a guard

I thought Davison was switching to offense...?

Yep and thanks for clearing that up.

RE: Good bye Seniors and Good Luck. Now what? - MonarchCAM - 01-03-2017 10:23 AM

Most of this year Toal was a 3 not a nose (like coward). He and Miles Fox rotated. Not saying he couldn't switch but.... Worthy indeed did not make the trip for the bowl, some others didn't as well, for various reasons. Appouh couldn't get a passport in time, some had grade issues with finals; Worthy was an unknown though.

RE: Good bye Seniors and Good Luck. Now what? - ODU FrontRunner - 01-03-2017 10:45 AM

which monarchs besides worthy and andrew young did not make the trip? I know young (cb) did not make it for violating team rules. It is surprising Harry Minum did not report which Monarchs did not make the trip.

RE: Good bye Seniors and Good Luck. Now what? - Gilesfan - 01-03-2017 11:46 AM

Toal is listed as the backup nose and I would have sworn he played a lot at nose alongside Wentz at tackle.

I think there are enough guys there...we have plenty with playing time as least. Toal, Taiwo, Tyson, Wentz, Fox, Londree

I don't recall seeing Tyson playing much after the first game or two. I believe i saw him on the sideline at the bowl game in a jersey but no pads. I know he was injured early in the season and wonder if they may have held him out the rest of the year in hopes of getting an additional year from a medical redshirt. I know he redshirted his freshman year.

I believe that is what the situation is.

I wanna say Brandon Tyson didn't play at all this season.
