Tillerson stokes liberal angst - QuestionSocratic - 12-13-2016 08:24 AM The liberal media is wailing over the nomination of Rex Tillerson as SecState and has spared no keystrokes in presenting their disdain. Sometimes, they cut to the core issue. Journalist Steve Coll writes in the New Yorker that Mr. Tillerson “comes across as sophisticated.” But Mr. Coll goes on to scoff that “his life is rooted in environments that are fundamentally nostalgic for imagined midcentury virtues.” For instance, he has “directed substantial time and charitable activity toward the Boy Scouts.” There it is folks. Tillerson hates gays and atheists. Next we'll be hearing he is a racist because he stands during the National Anthem. Oh yeah, and his favorite book is "Atlas Shrugged." The New Yorker RE: Tillerson stokes liberal angst - dfarr - 12-13-2016 08:45 AM I'm not sure if that article was meant to help promote him or not, but after reading it I'm all for the guy. He realizes that capitalism and business can do more for the poor than any government entity. The writer has complete contempt for capitalism or basic American values. If the New Yorker hates him, he can't be that bad. When I first heard about him I was apprehensive because I wasn't sure about his qualifications, but this article actually makes a good case for the guy, unintentionally I'm sure. I've mostly given up on New Yorker articles. Authors seemed to be paid by the word. What could be said in a couple of paragraphs takes 5 pages. I just am concerned about his motives in the same way I was concerned about Dick Cheney's motives. Is he working for us or Exxon? They're still writing articles with the same socialist/communist dog whistles, but middle America isn't buying any more. Articles like this now probably antagonize far more people than they appeal to. It will be interesting to see how long they continue on this tack.
