Wonder if he was hurt by being a QB and then switching to TE. Isn't that usually done in college? 04-jawdrop

I thought it has us at 5 before the commits yesterday? Maybe I am wrong, but didn't think they updated the rankings that fast.

What I like about this class other than "It's very solid" is how well it meets specific needs:

1). Adds a B1G QB to compete for the open position.

2). Adds several JUCO WR/TE receivers, positions of real need.

3). Adds DTs to a position which has some players but lost both starters. Adds depth at DE.

4). Adds JUCO LBs to a position which lost two starters.

We are literally adding JUCOs (or a D-I transfer) to all positions which he lost starters from 2017.

Doesn't get much better than that. Counting 3 star recruits is fun, but filling holes wins games.

Correct because we have so many JUCOs that are ready to play vs true frosh will need time to develop. Recruiting rankings and stars don't take that in account or discount it.

Well he could play WR depending on his blocking skills at TE. Good solid all around athlete, I wonder what position he would like to play which may an issue in recruiting him.

Kid is a MAC TE all day long. Looking at his offer list I doubt the Louisville offer is still good, or he would have jumped on it. Air Force is that 8 year commitment, just like the Howie decision. All the rest are small TX offers. I'd guess he's wrestling with committing to EMU, or going the Juco route for a year to increase his stock.

Would be a really good pick up if we could land him.

I watched his 'tape' and I was blown away. I doubt most H.S. TE going to MAC schools could do what I saw...

I know nothing about his recent recruiting. Can't find any bread crumbs, tea leaves to read, etc. and that is bad news. Usually someone Tweets something which can be interpreted esp. when a recruit indicates an OV.

All I can say is if we are in play for him, I could see why we would pass on Whitmer.

I prefer Thomas O. and this guy as our future TEs.

Added bonus Kainer is a Texas high school product. Crosby was a Texas high school product and so was Holford.

As well as Jordan Porter, who was rising up the depth chart quickly before his injury.

Just look at his 'summer camp' highlights. These TX kids train for football year round, compete at lots of camps, and compete and train on high level 7 on 7 teams throughout the year. All of the offensive and defensive guys (outside of the OL/DL) in TX have more reps against high level competition than most of the rest of the country except for maybe CA & FL. These 7 on 7 leagues and teams have become just like the AAU teams in basketball.

The difference between Kainer, and some kid from Indiana or Michigan would be night and day, as far as his total time committed to football.

I'm not sure how/who found Kainer, but it seems odd he's basically the only player we seem to be recruiting down there?

Love how he stares down a number of the DB's after great catches as well, haha. Bring him on!

BTW, we were showing a lot of love to Kainer in November/early December. Don't know if he visited or not.

Thought Neathery might bring one on board when Bullough left, but Creighton went with one of his guys.

BTW, I expect the signings to trickle in tomorrow. Thompson is signing at 11 PST. I don't expect kids to start sending in their LOI at 7:01 a.m. tomorrow.

TE Whitmer to Western New Mexico

Thanks for the scoop and good work.

Western Carolina is a FCS school and Western New Mexico is D-II.

Whitmer is sure struggling to make a decision. Now he says he's going to Weber St.

Matt Harmon, Ypsilant, TE/LB, who has been mentioned here, local kid, commits to Kent State.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting - emu steve - 02-07-2018 03:24 AM

Not a need for EMU, because of our QB roster, but I'm surprised he hasn't committed somewhere:

https://scout.com/college/football/recruiting/Article/Highlights-2018-QB-shows-elite-arm-strength-74941422

He basically is the last uncommitted from say the top 50 or 60 players from MI h.s. from the 2017 season.

His recruitment was kind of puzzling as he really seemed like a decent MAC recruit.

247sports makes him appear to be a premier MAC recruit, but he did not seem to get the recruiting love down the stretch.

Kind of baffling...
