Now that the initial storm has blown through on the Cohen raids and I can't find a single news article about them anymore...what are the leading prospects for what will come of information gained from the raids?

Everyone has already forgotten about Hannity's fireside legal advice, so let's ignore that. I am guessing Mueller will get Cohen on nothing at all or maybe some obscure money laundering provision that really doesn't have any bearing on anything. I am also guessing that Mueller will somehow justify the extension of his various investigations to approximately 1 nano second after the mid-terms are complete; if he stops before then with no scalps on the wall it will take the wind out of the sails of the Democratic Party/Trump resistance movement.

They found 16 cell phones and prosecutors are using Trump's "admission" that Cohen played a very small role for him as justification to speed up the document review, since it means that there should not be many documents related to ACP. That's all I've seen in the news.

So far, it seems like the only news that has come out is related information that is made public. Like with Mueller's investigation, a sign of no news ahead of any indictments/public disclosures is not really a sign that nothing will happen.

And my understanding is that this raid is not being carried out by Mueller - that it was handed off to the Southern District of New York due to evidence of crimes unrelated to the Russia investigation. So if there is anything on Cohen, I do not believe Mueller would be involved in getting anything on Cohen.

It's a double reverse pass to the QB. Muelller hands it over to the SDNY, who will then lob the info back to Mueller. Sneaky back door play.

I think that Cohen will make a deal. In exchange for immunity, he will provide Mueller with the original agreement signed by Trump and Putin, in which Trump agrees to return Alaska in return for Putin publishing Hillary's yoga schedule.

I do find it funny that on all the cable news, the questions about Cohen are whether or not he'll flip on Trump, not, whether or not there is anything for him to flip on.

I agree. The whole investigation is based on the assumption that Trump did something wrong, we just know it, we can feel it in our bones, if only we could uncover the evidence to show it.

Does "all" the cable news include Fox?

Peace Prize?

Wouldn't it be a hoot if he got the Nobel at the same time he was being impeached for sleeping with a porn queen a decade ago?

If Trump can create meaningful change in the Korean peninsula that leads to a denuclearized North Korea, then he would deserve it. I'm not holding my breathe, though, that North Korea wants to go that route, but I'm still hopeful.

I'm not holding my breath either. there are lots of hidden agendas here, not least Kim's. But it is so much better now than six months ago, when people were saying Trump would get us into WW III. maybe Trump won this game of chicken. Or maybe this was Kim's plan along, to put all his money into a bluff to bring everybody to the negotiating table where he can get concessions. I don't think Trump will give away much, but it could be Kim's plan. always worked before.

The Peace prize speculation is interesting, but truthfully, the PP is overrated. It would be fun, though, if he got the award while being impeached for the so-far-imaginary collusion.

So it doesnt seemingly matter that the leaders of N. and S. Korea met, for the the very first time ever.

I find it somewhat amazing that they did, to be frank. What had been a 'never happen in a lifetime event' actually occurred. I do find it interesting how much this is being downplayed, i.e. the events that actually have happened.

I mean, this is actually a tangible bucketload more than the last US Presidential winner actually did for the prize...

The actual importance of the event actually stands with Sadat going to Jerusalem to speak with the Knesset; Sadat and Begin would have won the PP for that action alone, notwithstanding Camp David which followed that historic trip.

But, I am not surprised at the goalposts for this being set back, tbh.

To the bold - this isn't the first time ever. Kim Jong-Il met the leader of South Korea (Kim Dae-jung) in 2000. That was the first ever meeting since World War II. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2000/jun/13/northkorea1

Then seven years later, the same type of meeting happened.

The historic nature of this meeting, is that it was the first meeting between the leaders in South Korea.

The reason this event is being downplayed is because it doesn't mean anything - yet. There have been talks directly between the leaders before, but nothing major has come from them. So based on that history, people are pausing to congratulate anyone too much because there is nothing set in stone.

But since you've been misinformed about the number of meetings between the Korean leaders, I can understand why you find this to be a much more significant act than it is.

I guess that since this is so 'in the normal' that Moon is being a bloviating asshat for the following:

Quote:“President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize."

and

Quote:"[Trump] deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks. It could be a resulting work of the U.S.-led sanctions and pressure”.

Bloviating asshat S Korean leader downplays meeting

Sorry about getting the numbers wrong. Im sure that is just a nature of bloviating asshats though.

But, I would surmise I'm not the only one 'misinformed' about the historic nature of the meeting.

Hate to tell you the historic nature of the meeting wasnt that Rocket man 'crossed South', it is the depth that the two countries are interacting. Regardless of two meetings previously between leaders.

Hm, I wouldn't have suggested that Moon was a bloviating asshat - weird term to throw out there.

Where have I contradicted anything you said? All I've said, which OO agrees with, is to not get too far ahead of ourselves. It's great that N and S Korea have had a meeting in S Korea and signed a peace treaty. And I've said Trump does deserve some credit - and he will definitely deserve more if anything substantial comes from these talks.

But until we get something substantial out of these talks, I'm going to hold my breathe. Why is that such a hard position to swallow? You seem rather peeved at that.

RE: Trump Administration - RiceLad15 - 04-30-2018 03:15 PM

On a side note - it's painfully obvious why Moon went out of the way to suggest that Trump, not he, deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for the efforts. Trump is malleable via flattery. Ego stroking goes a long way for Trump.

But, should denuclearization occur, Moon's comments certainly have merit. But until then, it's a bit premature.

RE: Trump Administration - Owl 69/70/75 - 04-30-2018 03:19 PM

If Trump pulls this off, this is going to be extremely hard for the spin doctors on the left to downplay.

But they're already in overtime trying to find ways to do it.

RE: Trump Administration - tanqtonic - 04-30-2018 03:26 PM

I hope his efforts at de-nuclearization go better than Obama's with Iran.

There is:
a) success;
b) 'we didnt come to an agreement'; and
c) we got the **** snookered out of us and returned some ungodly number of billions of dollars in cash and used the USAF as an armored car to do it.

By the way, opportune time to talk about it given Netanyahu's disclosure today.

I took your last sentence as a snide remark. That's why.
