ECU's stadium renovation video had the same style of music; yes, it does sound like sci fi music, but all the videos do.

We need a major overhaul of Minges badly.

RE: UC Basketball Arena Renovation - Bearcat2012 - 10-28-2016 08:27 AM

the crowd at the 1:45 mark is acting like we just beat UConn on a half court shot 05-stirthepot

Yeah , you cant totally appreciate the improvements that are coming unless you've been to the cracker box generic multi-purpose facility built in 1988 for $20mil we are playing in now . They are pretty much gutting the place come March . We are pumped. Hope the AAC tourney is hosted there.

Just think, you have at least another decade of seeing Tulsa and Tulane play in your nice new renovated arena.

Heck yea we do. First SMU's renovation, now this one. Heck even NC State's Reynold's renovation is looking better than Minges.

I would love to see the conference tourney held there after it gets the update.

Anything to not have it in Storrs every season.

I'd also love to see it in Tulsa again. The BOK Center is a pretty top notch facility that's not used enough for college basketball.

The previous conf tourn there (Tulsa) was a total failure...as the conf tourn HAS to be in a city where the local team actually has a strong fan base (i.e. since so few visiting teams fans travel to this tourn).

AAC does not need 17,000 plus seat off-campus arenas when the local team can't attract 6,000 to a game (i.e. looking at you Tulsa, Orlando, Tampa, Houston etc...)...hence why Cinci's renovated 11,000 seat "right size" arena would be perfect for the AAC...as good local fan base, lots of premium seating and a "right size" arena to could be a good atmosphere for most games.

So that's why they held it in Orlando? Lol

The American tournament only gets near sellout capacities when the tournament's home team plays anyways. While Tulsa may not sell out our games at the BOK during tournament season, we certainly are within driving distance for SMU & Memphis who would both help fill it on other nights. When you have it in a place like Storrs or Orlando only one team's fans are really going to show up anyways.

When TU last had the tournament we were in the C-USA which had Tulsa and Memphis as the "top" flagship basketball schools and Tulsa was in its first rebuilding season under Danny Manning after Wojcik tanked the program. Now we have an improved SMU as well as quality programs in Memphis, Temple, Cincy, and UConn. Attendance would be better.

Reading...try it...hence why I blasted the conf in the past for awarding the tourn to Orlando...and even noted the reason why in my previous post (i.e. tourn HAS to be in a town where the local team draws well).

Heck, the last time the tourn was held in Hartford...opening session of UCONN with multiple games barely drew 5,000...but you think all local tourn games are "near sellouts" when that's far from the truth.

I think its safe to say that the conf will not have to worry about the tourn visiting Tulsa's 17,000 plus seat off-campus arena anytime soon.

With some Tulsa sprinkled in there. 04-cheers

We gave Cincy major props, and pointed to our need to catch up.

Honestly I don't think it's the men's side that's been keeping the tournament in Storrs. It's the women's. The conference wants M+W together and UCONN is the best draw as far as WBB goes. But it really screws the men's side since it gives UCONN a biannual competitive advantage. The tournament should rotate. Simple as that. Make it as easy as possible for as many fanbases as possible to attend every year.
