The Official 2016-17 NBA Season Thread - PirateTreasureNC - 09-26-2016 10:03 PM

Hornets fan here, Game 1 of the pre season for us is 10/3 @ Dallas. I think losing Lin will be HUGE depth wise for the Hornets. I still think we got a shot at the playoffs again... probably 6-8 seed for the Playoffs.

I simply cannot enjoy a sport where 28 of the teams have literally no shot at winning it all. The only non-cavs/warriors fan base that could have fun is that of the Celtics. They'll push the Cavs to the limit and make it a really fun ECF. Otherwise, enjoy college basketball. The game play is of a very poor quality, but there's a pretty healthy competitive balance that the NBA simply cannot come close to (although Duke will probably win, as their roster is insane).

RE: The Official 2016-17 NBA Season Thread - Wedge - 09-27-2016 01:11 AM

The only reason CBB seems more competitive is that it has a one-and-done tournament, and even the best team, at any level of the sport, can be eliminated early in that format.

Make every round of the CBB tournament best-of-7, and then you could count on one hand the number of teams who could win the title. Conversely, make every NBA playoff round one-and-done or best-of-3, and there would be big upsets every year - there's another thread farther down on this board in which I argued that the NBA playoffs would be much more fun to watch if they did that (recognizing that they never will do it because of money).

It's obviously the biggest reason, although I don't think it's the only one. There are a lot more styles of play that can be successful, as opposed to the NBA where the Grizzlies style of play isn't going to win anything. It's also worth mentioning that teams of all freshman, no matter how highly touted, can often suffer lapses due to immaturity or simply not having much experience playing together. Sure, in a 7 game series the best talent would usually rise to the top and you'd have far fewer upsets, but teams that don't get the best recruits would still be able to win through a combination of player development and experience

No love for the Thunder? I'll agree most Eastern Conference teams aren't legit for a threat aside from maybe Toronto. In the West you still have a lot of contenders.

At the end of the 2020-21 season.

Quote:The Trail Blazers and Damian Lillard have reached an agreement on an extension that will keep the point guard in Portland for the next six years.

The deal is the maximum five-year extension worth $120 million, according to league sources. The extension kicks in with the 2016-17 season.

Best they can do is the 5 seed, but more likely to end up between 6-8. An entire 82 game season for the privilege of losing in the first round to the Spurs or Clippers. The season isn't fun when you can easily predict how it's going to end

The NBA would be more fun if the first round was 7, the second was 5, the third was 3 and there was a single championship game. They could even promote it like the Super Bowl and give it a week before it's played at a neutral site.

It wouldn't crown the best team necessarily but wouldn't drag on for four long rounds like the current setup.

he's signed through the '20-'21 season, so you're gonna have to wait a little while

you think the Pelicans are going to trade one of the best players in the league for a draft pick? Any trade for Davis would begin and end with Kawhi Leonard

was being facetious, but that's an intriguing idea. who knows if kawhi can be a transcendent talent. he sure is good, but man, anthony davis

at least Kawhi can stay healthy. Davis is the Justin Tuck of basketball

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/17834977/derrick-rose-new-york-knicks-found-not-liable-sexual-assault-civil-trial

I find a lot of the comments from the jurors and the legal team for Rose to be kind of off putting about the situation. I can't say she did or didn't get raped or if there was evidence to support it but with comments like those it doesn't seem like something was right with PR involved.

Interesting thing on some of the NBA unis this season.

I kind of like that Brooklyn jersey

Toronto doing a throwback to the Huskies and that Chinese New Year thing is kind of cool.

LOL

Cavs romp in game 1.

Warriors get romped by the Spurs in game 1.

The 76rs are doing well against OKC.

And I am pissed that somehow NBA Leage Pass is preventing my local FOXSN from showing tonight's regular season opener of the Hornets @ Bucks on the alt channel I can normally watch their games. Hell, I can't even get the radio feed for the game to listen to it.

It is just one game, but I believe Golden St. will need some games to adjust to KD in the lineup. In the end they will still be there - the Finals.
