So, are any of y'all hearing that Campbell, Jacksonville and Stetson may be joining the BSC? I can't tell if that's speculation from A Sea of Red, or if they are actually hearing rumblings of this happening.

Apparently there is a 10:30am announcement of BSC football expansion.

Oh my Gosh! A merger of the BSC and A-Sun conference would be SO amazing! I am hoping this is the answer. It would create an 18 team basketball conference and a 9 team football conference with room for growth!

RE: New BSC Members - Libertygrad01 - 09-13-2016 12:43 PM

Only joining as a football conference. This does nothing to help us in the immediate. Those schools mentioned have made no mention of providing schollies.

absolutely nothing new from this

KSU FB is the only program affected, and only marginally

waste of time and effort waiting for this "announcement"

what a joke

RE: New BSC Members - army56mike - 09-13-2016 06:47 PM

Yeah, this is really an announcement about nothing. Nothing happened! None of the A-Sun (Pioneer Conference) football teams have shown an inclination to upgrade to scholarship football.

This should have been an announcement that the two conferences merged and then it would have been worth something.

Atlantic Sun Conference
NJIT
Lipscomb
Kennesaw St.
Liberty
Radford
Longwood
High Point
Gardner Webb
Campbell
North Florida
Florida Gulf Coast
Jacksonville
Stetson
South Carolina Upstate
Winthrop
UNC Asheville
Presbyterian College
Charleston Southern

The Big South could use some fresh meat. I don't know how many can come in and compete right away. If all are like Jacksonville then the answer is probably at best "not many." It doesn't look like a big deal at the moment but it does give programs a chance to challenge themselves without having to leave their current conference. It also helps the Big South keep an auto-bid to the playoffs. Win-win.

I am hearing, and seeing, that North Alabama will most likely join the Big South for football once their other sports join the Atlantic Sun.

That's a good thing. Moves us up to 8 teams at least. We need a couple more before I feel more comfortable about BSC viability.

Alright! Let's grab up 2 more teams and get rolling! I want a couple Florida schools, or Morehead St.

RE: New BSC Members - Ewglenn - 12-08-2016 11:35 AM

Just fuel for thought, UNA played and lost 31-12 at Jacksonville St. this year. Liberty lost at home to the same team 48-19. UNA is in the semi finals of the D2 playoff. Where do you think this team would fit in the Big South standings this year. I think they would have ended, at best 2 at worst four, but probably third behind LU and CSU but ahead of KSU. Imo

New BSC Members - army56mike - 12-08-2016 04:52 PM

I'm not sure. But I would have CSU, Us, and KSU ahead of them for sure.

Idk that KSU is for sure ahead of them. They were decent but you are talking about one of the best D2 football teams.

I'll take 2 of these teams... plus Morehead St. and Bellarmine.

Florida Tech
Florida Gulf Coast
Jacksonville
North Florida
Bethune-Cookman

Bellarmine? That is a tiny school. Morehead would be nice but my pick would be Jacksonville and FGCU.

New BSC Members - army56mike - 12-11-2016 07:56 PM

Yeah, I know, and Bellarmine is just now starting up a Div. II team. But they are from my home and so it'd be an easy game to watch and cheer on Liberty. That's why I said Morehead also. Easy road trip.

Definitely FGCU and really wouldn't care which other Florida school. How can you go wrong with Jacksonville, Daytona, Melbourne, or Pensecola?

lol I know what you mean, I love Florida. I went to U of L for awhile so I'm aware of Bellarmine. They are awesome academically but just tiny lol.

Bellarmine - 3,850

Which would make them the third smallest.

Why didn't N. Alabama and KSU join the BSC as full members? Was that even offered?

I think they would be out of the footprint, especially North Alabama. The Big South isn't exactly a wealthy conference looking to take on more expenses to grow bigger. That's my rationale at least.

New BSC Members - army56mike - 01-22-2017 04:30 AM

We gotta figure something out. We need 2-6 more teams in the BSC, as full members. I hate all this partial member stuff. (That's why the Big East should have just gone ahead and invited us as a full fledge member rather than just women's field hockey... I kid! I kid!!) But we do need to bring in some good DII teams looking to make a move up the ladder of success. I just don't see many current DI teams that'd want to come to BSC.
