Maybe it's worth changing our defensive scheme from the one we've had the past years. The 2 LB, 1 KAT, 2 CB, and 2 S defense doesn't seem to be working.

RE: Gamethread: Rice Owls @ WKU Marshmallows - GoodOwl - 09-01-2016 08:55 PM

Bailiff at halftime:

On the poor half: "That's been us. We gotta make a catch. We gotta make a play."

"What they're doing is throwing it down the field."

??? What do you expect them to do? Stop and explain it to you first?

As to the bolded part? Yes, for the better part of 10 years.

Maybe it works for TCU. But we're clearly NOT TCU.

I'm far from the guy to know secondary scheming...but it seems we haven't really changed up our defense since we had 2 NFL cb's on the corners.

Think it's time for good owl to remove "marshmallows" from the thread title. 03-banghead

For the first time in my life, I actually may not watch the second half of an Owls game. And I bought a season ticket this year????

Should have tried to advance the ball on the last posession? Try to get in FG range? I guess we've given up?

TCU can pretty much out score anyone they play. Not so much for the Owls.

Nothing new.

Given the lack of any substantive uptick in enthusiasm with Bailiff or the program, I had been wondering where the season ticket increase was coming from.

When our qb looked over the the sideline with about 28 seconds left and saw they weren't gonna run another play you could see his shoulders sink and all the energy leave. It's like we just gave up.

I think most of us at this point consider buying football tickets as showing support for the athletic administration and what they are doing. Trying to give them a financial base to make the changes. It's certainly not to be interpreted as showing support for Bailiff. The fact that we have sold more season tickets this year won't be mean more butts in the seats.

Not we, the coaching staff.

Not "we". Offense was ready to try. One man's decision to leave a scoring opportunity on the field.

Guys, face it: we suck. This is NOT on the players at all, but is on our coaches. The product on the field is never going to be great if our coaches have no clue what is going on. We have great talent, the people in charge just don't know how to utilize it.

How the heck do we expect to go to a major conference if our coaches have us down by more than three TDs at the half to a non P-5 team?

I can't believe I bought season tickets this year. I feel sorry for the players. I'm sure they are working their butts off.

like, how can that always happen? where is our safety?

It's as if we're so intent on having our dbs support the run that we either give a 10+ yard cushion on the corners and they are looking into the backfield.... or we have the safeties looking into the backfield and our corners are on an island.

David (correctly) pointed out that they're going max protect and we're looking in the backfield, but there are good strategies to stop that.

Not that it matters, but the meerkat wasn't going to save us from that first half against WKU tonight.

The announcers said it best, and noted it several times: "WKU doesn't seem to care about Time Of Possession. they just want to get the ball in the end zone as quickly as possible."

RE: Gamethread: Rice Owls @ WKU Marshmallows - GoodOwl - 09-01-2016 09:07 PM

'Mallows averaged 10 yards per play in 1H.

Sure, our way is better.

We aren't great talent wise, I think that's obvious.
But it's even more obvious that Bailiff doesn't know WTF he is doing with defensive schemes. And the asinine repetition of failing schemes there just means everything else is irrelevant

To be clear. It is hard to believe someone else couldn't get more out of our players than this. The last thing we need right now are embarrassing blowouts to CUSA recent call-ups from FCS.
