Gary Kubiak with the coaching bonehead move of the year IMO. 62 yd fg try with a minute to go? To give KC the ball on their side of the field and easy to get in FG range? wow.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - Wedge - 11-28-2016 12:37 AM

Yeah, Kubiak flat-out lost that game himself.

The worst thing he did was the two pass plays before the 62 yard FG attempt. If the Broncos had run the ball twice, they could have tried the long FG at :03. Clock runs out, game ends in a tie.

I was expecting them to snap the ball directly to the kicker and have him punt it. Or try to draw KC offsides and then punt, as Collinsworth suggested.

yeah wouldn't have been at 3 seconds because KC had 1 timeout so would have gotten it with more like 20 seconds.

and try to draw offsides and then kick the fg from 57 yards. and maybe get a free chance at the 62 yd one.

That game last night was great!

But it was hard for me to enjoy with the Panthers losing the late game in such epic fashion... I have a lot questions in my head about how this season has gone... we have made a lot of games close but couldn't get that one extra play/score to push us into the win column--which over the last few seasons we have. Not sure if its the GM's fault, the players fault, or other....

I don't think the FG was the issue. If you think your kicker can make 65 plus kicks then his play to end the game. The issue IMO was Kubiak placed his faith in his defense holding on a short field when that unit just wasn't having a great night.

If Denver had run the ball on 2nd and 3rd down instead of passing, they could have tried the longshot FG attempt without leaving KC enough time to drive down for their short FG attempt.

The tie would have helped Denver. If the Broncos and Dolphins both finish 10-6 or 11-5, the Dolphins will likely have a better conference record and get the last playoff spot. That scenario would have been avoided if the Broncos had tied KC instead of losing.

Jeff Fisher fired ...LOL .... LONG TIME COMING IMO....

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - Wedge - 12-12-2016 03:00 PM

Kroenke should have done this deed long ago. And yesterday's game was a complete embarrassment that left no doubt Fisher is way past his expiration date.

But does Kroenke know the Rams' next game is on the road in three days? And as of this minute, they haven't decided on an interim head coach for Thursday's game.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - stever20 - 12-12-2016 03:32 PM

I'm going to guess the reason you do it now is so that Fisher can't beat Seattle again, and save his sorry ass yet again.

Thank goodness. I was thinking the extension would prevent them from making a move this year. At least somebody gets that they've got a short window here to get LA fans on board before they start asking for those monstrous PSLs for the new stadium.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - PirateTreasureNC - 12-18-2016 07:59 PM

Raiders make it...

Panthers AND the Broncos, might not even make the playoffs this year.

Cards and Panthers, the two teams from the NFC Championship might not make the playoffs.

Jags fire Bradley.... and might move on from Bortles too...

Cards already have been eliminated. Panthers are all but eliminated.

Very short window. IIRC the Rams are permitted to begin selling PSLs for KroenkeWorld on January 15. Whether they actually begin the sale then is another matter.

It also suggests that the next Rams head coach will be a familiar name, like Jon Gruden if he's interested. Won't sell so many PSLs if they follow an ugly season by hiring a promising young coordinator whom casual fans have never heard of.

There's at least one report that Gruden will meet with the Rams. I thought the conventional wisdom was that he has it too good at ESPN to take a job like the Rams'. At $6.5 MM he's already making more than only a handful of coaches, with a fraction of the effort and stress. And Rams' management doesn't make it look like the kind of place that is conducive to building a winner. Still, I'd be ok with Gruden if he wants the job...

Wow--he started with the Houston Oilers in 1994. Amazing he hung around so long, as he was the epitome of mediocre. Wonder if he'll get another shot, as he's only 58?
