of course, it's pretty ironic that Bradford comes in to fill in for a guy who got a knee injury.

There is a rumor that Bridgewater will also sit out the 2017 season.

But unless Bradford plays much better this season than he has to date in the NFL, the Vikings just gave away a 2017 top-15 draft pick for what will be, at best, a season or two of mediocrity.

Wow, I didn't realize that his injury was that bad. That's a pretty tragic thing to happen to a good young player if he ends up not playing for 2 years. Still doesn't justify giving up a 1st and a 4th for a QB that has a history of being injury prone

2015 was promising. We don't need an All Pro QB. We have the running game and the play action passing game on offense, and a Mike Zimmer defense. That's enough to win.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - stever20 - 09-08-2016 09:56 PM

think Denver may be ok at QB with Siemian. Playing a good Carolina defense and doing pretty well for himself.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - PirateTreasureNC - 09-08-2016 11:05 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

He got the kick on the TO freeze.

Then miss the one that counted.

I have to say that the refs seemed to miss some helmet to helmet hits on Cam. I hope he is ok. I think we are really going to need the week and a half to get ready for the 49rs next Sunday.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - stever20 - 09-08-2016 11:17 PM

Denver's defense is going to be a bit lighter in money in a few days I feel.

I honestly never knew you could have both intentional grounding and roughing the passer on the same play. Never saw that before. Frankly, I'm surprised the roughing doesn't supercede the intentional grounding.

Refs didn't miss the last helmet to helmet hit. It was a Denver penalty offset by a Newton penalty for grounding.

Re Stever's comment: I think in the NFL, a penalty on each side always offsets.

actually no. If it's a 5 yd penalty vs a personal foul, the personal foul supercedes the 5 yd penalty.

Helmet to helmet should always be called, even if it's close, and supersede everything.

Have to get that trash out of football. College, high school, and youth too.

you could easily get rid of it if you also got rid of pads and helmets. Players would not lead with their heads if they didn't have the protection of helmets. I'd be fine with watching them play without helmets at the very least, but the majority of fans would immediately stop watching. Funny thing is, it might be more enjoyable, as the players would be even faster. Try watching antonio brown run without pads and a helmet

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - Wedge - 09-09-2016 04:36 PM

When the people who run the game have to choose between making the game safe and making it look like their vision of "real football", they choose the latter every single time.

This is a good article on that subject, and it's spot-on.

https://theringer.com/nfl-concussions-cte-cam-newton-4a0c6e22a070

Quote:They keep telling us they’re going to find a safe way to do it — a way to play football that doesn’t result in Tre Mason’s mom telling the police that her 23-year-old son just isn’t acting right, that her boy, who couldn’t bring himself to turn up at Rams training camp this summer, now has the mind-set of a 10-year-old. They keep telling us they’re going to find a way that doesn’t end with Bruce Miller, all 248 pounds of him, wandering lost and angry and confused, looking very much like someone exhibiting the symptoms of long-term brain damage, and then attempting to enter a family’s hotel room and allegedly beating a 70-year-old man.

In Thursday night’s 2016 NFL season opener, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s head bounced. It quivered; it jerked; it got knocked this way and then that way and then this way again. If you watched the game, you heard the cold click of helmet-on-helmet impact and saw Newton arcing sideways like a deer hit by a car. You saw this many times. Some of the Broncos’ hits against him were never called as penalties; Newton was never taken out of the game for medical staffers to ask if he was seeing double or triple or quadruple, to check if one of those crashes had managed to make Newton’s brain do somersaults inside his skull. The team said afterward that he was fine, but in the moment didn’t even stop to find out. You can watch the hits, all of them, and when you come up for air you can wonder if this time there’s any way to deny that football is doomed.

1 thing I'm going to say.

I have loved watching actual football today, not that bastardized thing that they call college football.

As a Dolphins fan, that Seattle game is going to hurt for awhile.

yeah I'm sure.

but at least you aren't a Cowboys fan. That one is going to hurt for even longer.....

It does hurt, but I won't say it will be for long. We'll see where we are in January.

Cole Beasley doesn't drop passes often, but when he does, he makes sure they are important. Should've had a TD to open the game but he drops an easy catch. Sure he had to jump for it but it was in stride and hit both hands. I can't stand that little booger.

Defense gave up the big plays when it mattered. Offense didn't make plays and settled for field goals instead of touchdowns.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - stever20 - 09-11-2016 08:17 PM

well looking at their schedule, if the Steelers beat the Redskins tomorrow night- the Cowboys next 3 games are vs teams that would have lost opener. But then after that- the final 12 games- only Cleveland and Washington would have lost. Cincy, GB, Philly, Pitt, Baltimore, Minnesota, Giants again, Tampa, Detroit, and Philly again. So Cowboys can't really afford a slow start this year.

I'm saying that what is being played as college football isn't actual football. I mean last night we had a 68-55 game. That's a joke.

RE: NFL 2016 Season Thread - stever20 - 09-12-2016 08:36 AM

so looking at the ESPN QBR
last year/this year- for week 1
90+ 4/1
80-90 6/6
70-80 1/3
60-70 2/7
50-60 6/5
40-50 4/4
30-40 3/1
20-30 3/1
0-20 3/0

Good games- 70-100 11/10
avg games- 30-70 15/17
bad games- 0-30 6/1

now tonight we have the SF/LA game which could easily add 2 more bad games to the week. But also the Pittsburgh/Washington game which could easily add 2 more good games to the week.
