Western Michigan had some juniors in this weekend. Among them were top targets Marcus Fuqua, MJ Griffin and Spencer Holstege.

Nice start. This kid could easily get to 225 lb and be a force in the MAC.

RE: Official Recruiting Thread - 2019 - Stampede your face!! - 03-12-2018 06:50 PM

Missed out on Spencer Holstege out of Grand Rapids to Miami of Ohio. The staff has been offering Georgia kids a bunch recently. And lastly, it does look like new coach Nick Sanchez will be taking over Cory Sanders' recruiting territory in Florida.

3 staff members recently followed a Notre Dame grad transfer DT on Twitter. Jay Hayes. 6'4" 290.

We need all the help we can get at DT. Keep your fingers crossed.

Also of note: Maimi already has 8(!) commits. I don't want to say that they are super high quality commits but still, Coach Martin is pushing hard. His seat is probably getting warm.

Edit: make that 10 commits

Just got their 9th in Alante Brown. That's the 2nd commit of theirs that was a pretty high target of the Broncos.

I'm baffled. It's a great school, it's just that Martin hasn't done or shown squat for all his recruiting successes.

Why baffled? Kids want to play now not take the time to develop.

On paper WMU has recruited very well. Many in their 3rd year with the program (including redshirt) are not pushing out those ahead of them creating a back log. It doesn't mean that the back log is talented or not but simply that unless you're a game changer you'll need to be patient and work your way in.

At QB the primary signee of '17, who saw time due to injury (opportunity) transferred because the primary signee of '18 appears better. The injured incumbent is healthy, beat out those 2 among others and PT isn't screaming it's available.

Do we really only have the 1 commit so far in this class?

That's what happens when you don't have a spring game. I'm not trying to be a downer on Lester, he had his reasons, but it's a fact that teams seem to get commitments at this event.

I would bet there were still recruits at the closed practice... just because it wasn’t in front of a weak crowd of die heads likely didn’t have as much of an effect as you elude to...

RE: Official Recruiting Thread - 2019 - ru4wmu - 04-19-2018 06:10 PM

I was at the Spring Practice Game this year. There were several incoming Freshmen and several HS recruits at this practice. No idea if the fact it was held inside and not a game had any affect on the recruits that showed up that day.

Look at when teams get commits. Spring games. It's just a fact. You can deny it if you want. CMU got two today. We always got commits that weekend in the past.

It also has to do with WMU having spring practice 3 weeks early which made the weather crappy.
