6’10” 200 lbs from Sydney, Australia.

Hughes commits to Hofstra.

Good luck filling in for Gustys next year!

Just had a vision, that twenty P5 teams get hit with major sanctions after the Final Four Championship from the FBI investigations and we have two 5 star centers recommit to the Tribe!!!!

Man, is Jones Beach that much nicer in the spring than Yorktown Beach??
What's the scoop here? He doesn't like tourists??

I would still take that "William and Mary in pursuit now" with a grain of salt. I never found any footage on him, and only a few possible pics with what appears to be their blue team, made up of JV year players. He did not play for Scotland Campus Sports' top two teams. His only other offer was from the Nichols State coach, who turned around and offered him again when he took over the South Alabama job last week. Good time to be a tall HS kid and almost assured a free college education because of the scarcity of big men.

My guess is what others have intimated - immediate playing time, possibly as a starter. We likely don’t offer that.

Seriously doubt he'll see playing time at Hofstra for several years, if then. Hofstra is hurting for recruits at the moment.

Hughes would have been a developmental big for us, I can't imagine at 200lbs he is going to step in ready to contribute much right away at Hofstra. Hofstra's front court seems made up of developmental, inexperienced bigs. So, he might get more opportunities than I expect.

If he wasn't able to even play for the second tier team at Scotland Campus, then I think Hofstra's offer was simply that they were willing to totally risk a schollie because they have no chance of filling this class, with no other commits to date. Like the kid last summer, we may have been willing to do the same, IF nothing materializes in the next month, but I'm not convinced Hughes is even at the same developmental level as Aleks Novakovich was. I'd much rather see us take a Drew Peterson. A lot of teams out there these days doing well with small, but talented lineups.

Speaking of Novakovich, Evansville fired their 12 year coach (and bball alum) this past week, who had a lot of winning seasons. Kind of a head scratcher. They consequently now have 6 players transferring and Novakovich has asked for his release. I would rather see us going back after Novakovich. Girlfriend does still appear to be in the picture, though, and saw where he still planned to give whomever their new coach is a chance to resign him. (Past IU star Calbert Cheaney appears to be the chosen one.) I'd hope we'd have a real chance there, if Tony and staff feel he'd be more open to leaving Indiana at this stage, and assuming he gets his release. This would be a good boomerang addition.

Austin Shaver and the head coach at The Skills Factory, a post-grad school in Atlanta, have started following each other. This could be just establishing a relationship with no specific player target but The Skills Factory has four unsigned big men: 6’9” Alex Marnica, 6’10” Esahia Nyiwe, 6’11” Dimitar Pandev, and 7’1” Zhao Yiming. Nyiwe, from South Sudan by way of Omaha, is the only one with a Verbal Commits page; he holds offers from Omaha, Jacksonville State, and Southeast Missouri State. Pandev, from Macedonia, has highlight videos but the other two have very little info online.

By the way, I believe that Quinn's team plays again tonight.

2018 Basketball Recruiting - Tribeheart - 03-21-2018 06:10 AM

Quinn's team lost their quarterfinal state championship game last night. He's going to be a great vocal leader for this group coming in. He tweeted this afterwards:

OK, this is fantastic for a 17-18 year old to post after a loss. Not a typical perspective. Hoping for great things for Quinn.

Whether his play on the floor pans out is TBD. I believe his competitiveness and leadership benefit the team day 1.

They have an unsigned 2018 center, 6'11" Sasha Sukhanov from Russia. Verbal Commits lists offers from Stony Brook, Rhode Island, Old Dominion, Morehead State (unofficial visit), and Kennesaw State (his most recent offer, about three months ago - official visit). I found a message board post from April this year that also mentions offers from Wichita State and James Madison. So that's seven but someone tweeted he has nine offers. Unofficial visit to Marshall. Within the last four months Elon, Chattanooga, Toledo and Jacksonville State have shown interest.

Sukhanov commits to Morehead State.

We lose guys to Morehead State, yet we're talking about catching Villanova. We have a loooonnng way to go.

I see he had an offer from Rhode Island and Witchita State. I'd settle for the next intermediate step to be in line with those programs on the way to Villanova like status.

Well first it was a little bit of speculation on my part, based on who Austin was following, that Sukhanov was indeed a player of interest. Second, WM never offered him as far as I know so the Tribe can’t lose out on a guy they never offered. Granted the Tribe perplexingly has not offered any bigs since the season ended.
