RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - Gilesfan - 09-26-2017 04:15 PM

How are we supposed to compete with Louisville when recruits get 100k and strippers?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - Gilesfan - 09-26-2017 04:27 PM

And lets not forget Keats is a former Louisville coach and is currently at an Addidas school. BTW, he refused to respond to questions today.

I would keep an eye out on NC State. They may need to join UNC, Miami, Louisville, etc. in some sanctions. (Louisville and every coach involved should get death penalty)

The NCAA didn't make an example of UNC...why would anyone think they would hold these schools accountable? These asst. coaches will be held accountable but these P5 schools are out of control. The NCAA is scared to do anything because of the $.

The FBI being involved changes things. You aren't talking about academic misconduct, but criminal misconduct and investigations will be detailed and public.

Only for the criminal charges involving the asst. The NCAA would handle anything from an accountability / academic control perspective.

You can bet heads will role. There is going to be a huge announcement tomorrow; possibly Petino being gone.

I'm interested in the Miami angle, too. Wonder if our old friend, Larranaga, will face any heat.

There is some talk Indiana or Kansas may be involved as well.

Sources: Basketball agency ASM Sports was raided today. FBI had warrant, took Andy Miller's computer.

The schools and the NCAA make sure the head coaches are so far removed from all of the cheating so they can claim plausible deniability. My guess is a few assistants get fired and maybe some recruiting sanctions or something. They may also try to give someone like Charleston Southern or Alabama State the death penalty for tweeting at a recruit so they can say they get tough with schools who break the rules too.

Not necessarily. A head coach just got fired for ordering escorts from his University issued phone.

This is just the start. Heads are going to roll.

Oh yeah. This is going to be real messy.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - Gilesfan - 09-26-2017 07:06 PM

If you have Miami paying a half decent recruit 150k, i mean.....come on.

Its not going to be hard to do math when you know how schools did it.

There is now a tip line and some guilty parties gonna squeel.

Been going on for decades, though not to this degree. I personally know people who were paid as athletes at Bolling Green and Marshall in the late 80s. But we are talking 4 figures, not 6.

Absolutely. “Hokie handshakes.” But it has gotten out of control and *may have really amped up when adidas started going after Nike schools. AAU prolly needs some blame.

The shoe companies are funding AAU. It all comes back to the shoes and the fight to have the right players wearing their brand once they get to the league.

The FBI, unfortunately, said something to the effect that the schools look like victims in this process. That's all the cover they need. There will be little or no action from the impotent NCAA.

I would be shocked if there arent major sanctions. “Failure to monitor”. NCAAs hands are going to be tied.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - ODU BBALL - 09-27-2017 07:52 AM

Someone has opened an aptly titled thread this morning to discuss these NCAA recruiting wrong doings.
