I'd like to think with two serviceable bigs, the NCAA would be a real possibility. Hell, I'm an optimist.

So, it comes down to being a slightly better team than last year. Doesn't have to be a major improvement.

Losses: Haynes, Stith, Porter
Gains: Reece, Wade, Ezikpe, Kithcart, Robinson
Likely Improvement: Stith, Caver, Green, Carver, Goodwin
Who knows: Pilavios

The team will likely be deeper next year with Kithcart at least being a serviceable backup point guard. More bodies down low than the 3 we used last year.

I think we will have to rely on Green, Stith, and Caver picking up some of the scoring slack. Hopefully Godwin can chip in a few points per game.

I'm at a wait and see. Hard to imagine we are better at this point, but it depends on if there is another player coming; and as importantly, just wait Ezikpe/Reece/Robinson can give us.

If we land another big, what are the chances of one of the freshman redshirting?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - CalODUFan - 05-25-2018 11:29 AM

Kelvin Jones is not even in Top 100 of JuCo players, although two of his teammates at Odessa are. Of course, Western KY got some top JuCos.

Sheesh. New Mexico State hit those top 10 juco's hard.

That's why I used the word "serviceable."

What we have is a former 4-star big man and possibly a former 3-star big man. Neither seems to have reached his college potential for whatever reason. We all know how much recruiting rankings are worth, but obviously at one time a few "experts" thought that they were pretty good players.

In any case, JJ has recruited them. Now he has to coach them. If he can pull out that potential, next year's team has the possibility of being very good (and hopefully the freshmen will be good enough for some relief duty provided that neither redshirts.)

If not, time needs to be up for JJ. A 6 year NCAA drought is long enough.

Here's hoping that we get Jones in addition to Robinson, and that they play as well as they were ranked.

On our new 7 footer. If I, just a regular fan, was getting tests, facebook messages and the like about this guy coming here weeks ago, I'm sure the coaches have a plan on how to use him. Not hard to figure either when you have a 7'1" 280 or so back to the basket type player. Now, I hope the reports on the other guy coming here turn out to be true too.

Where are these reports?

Given your history of player prognostication, there is zero reason not to believe you weren’t dead serious.

You also most absolutely said Sam Harris would be all CAA and you authored home court disadvantage.

Luckily the caazone no longer exists or I’d drop the post directly in your lap lol.

HA, I remember the homecourt disadvantage. Didn't he also dox you on there and post a picture of you and your girlfriend? Or was that someone else?

If we end up in the NCAAs, he gets credit. If we don't there is no credit to give.

Fortunately, that will give Godwin an outstanding opportunity to knock down shots. We’re going to need him if Kithcart is not a great shooter. And Kithcart’s ability to get to the rim is going to open up the three. I’m expecting a break out year for Godwin.

Nothing he has done so far this offseason has changed my perception of who Jeff jones is one bit.

We’re not making an NCAA tourney with a stiff replacing Stith and a juco and some freshman replacing porter.

Jeff jones is our coach for 1 more year so enjoy it while it lasts.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018 - JJMonarch - 05-25-2018 06:11 PM

I am looking for Caver to slide to the 2 spot some next year which would open some time for Kithcart. I still believe Caver will be more effective if his time on the court is more like the low 30 minute range vs 40 minutes. If Kithcart can get around 20 in a backup role maybe Caver can play 20 at PG and about 10 at the 2 spot. That would leave 20 or so for Xavier. Stith can play the 2 a few minutes if needed and I look for him to split time at the 3 and 4. Hopefully Godwin plays at least 20 minutes per game at the three. All of that will leave about 60 minutes of playing time between our new transfers, the two new freshman bigs and Carver. The big question in my mind is where will Wade fit in. I look for him to play but have no clue as to how much time he gets. I hope my math is not too bad and of course all of the above is just a gut feeling.

Depends on whether or not they fill the role adequately.

Says the homefield disadvantage author.

The only moving goalposts are with jones defenders.

The only goalpost I have is the NCAA tourney. He has not gotten us there and will not get us there next year with the roster as it is currently constructed.

These are facts not open to any other interpretation. You can admit I was right about jones not being good enough any day now sweetie.
