2016 Tribe Football - nogretheogre - 05-31-2016 12:51 PM

Norfolk State looks to ruin the christening of our new stadium...might be a bit tougher this year than in years past. Several FBS transfers at key positions.

Not sure if you know this but your original link is for this year but the previous 3 were transfers from last year (1 of which graduated).

The QB transfer was already their starting QB and biggest rusher last year and will be back for his senior year
The RB transfer was already their main RB and 2nd biggest rusher last year and will be back for his senior year
The WR transfer was their 3rd leading WR and has used up his eligibility last year

Whoops...
Just trying to get the ball rolling to football, since our NCAA baseball trophy will be here and over before we know it 03-cloud9 ...saw the top link and remembered other articles about transfers...I guess those were all old...

But, hey, still could be tougher matchup than usual...03-phew

Will be a tougher matchup because Latrell Scott has had a year to impact the program...Guarantee they will be loaded for bear against Richmond the week before and we'll get a solid early season reference point.

Tribe Twitter quotes Athlon Sports preseason ranking of #13

RE: 2016 Tribe Football - nj alum - 06-01-2016 08:15 AM

Sporting News has Tribe at #6 nationally, and #2 in the CAA behind the Spiders.

RE: 2016 Tribe Football - LeadBolt - 06-01-2016 11:06 AM

A couple of posters on AnyGivenSaturday have us as 5th in CAA. They have also posted the top 20 in the Athlon poll mentioned mentioned above. Apparently our conference mates feel our schedule and players lost, primarily on D will play against us.

UR is clear favorite.

I think WM starts in the second tier along with Towson, Villanova, JMU and maybe UNH (never count them out). If the Oregon QB transfer pans out Towson could be in business.

I think the league will be improved over last year top to bottom, and the top half of the league will be highly competitive.

We will almost certainly have a top three offense in the league and may have the top tandem of kickers in the league. Success of season will largely be determined by development of front seven on defense.

Missing URI and Albany (have we played them since they became CAA?) on the schedule really hurts us I think

The development of the front seven on defense is critical for the Tribe to have success this year, I agree.

That is quite a range from 6th to 13th and if we are second in the CAA I wonder where the Spiders are.

The posters on AGS either know something we don't or they are delusional. Offensively we should be able to keep up with everyone.

UR #4
JMU #14
TU #18
Nova #20

We'll know more after we curbstomp NC State.

RE: 2016 Tribe Football - TribeNomad - 06-02-2016 11:20 AM

Not much love, but the posters down on us are UD, TU & Nova folks. Given the poor showing against UD, we could see that position. We did beat Towson & Nova, and though both teams moved the ball well, takeaways by the defense made the difference. Hopefully new guys can step in on defense this year and make an impact. We should be able to understand how others (given the "star" losses) could drop us down. Now we have to prove them wrong.

Barring injuries, the offense will give the defenses of those posters fits!

Yeah I totally get why UD fans would be down on us

Yet, we had a better season than all 3 of those teams. Anyway, UD's program has since fallen into a tailspin and the other two teams' fanbases couldn't fill Paul's Deli.

RE: 2016 Tribe Football - Tribe32 - 06-02-2016 04:20 PM

This will be one of the best offensive teams in memory. There are more electric players than we've ever had. The O-Line should be solid and I'm expecting a really strong season from Cluely. He could be a pro prospect with a good year.

With how close Towson is to DC, it would be great if the athletic department/DC alumni group/etc. really make a push to show up en masse at Towson this year. They don't draw a crowd and it's a chance to get people out for the last road game of the season.

Footballer reunion coming up. Hope to see some of you guys there. I'll be the old guy dressed in summer white with a good looking wife. This will be a culminating event on a mid Atlantic tour celebrating my 75th.

RE: 2016 Tribe Football - tribefbfan - 06-10-2016 04:45 PM

I know the expectations are high for the 2016 Tribe, but I was looking at the schedule, it's not easy by any stretch.

NC State of course is a mismatch (or at least supposed to be). Great game for the kids to experience but we will be heavy underdogs.

The next three should be wins. Then at UHN, at JMU. Those will be tough venues.

Delaware and Maine at home tough games.

Then at Stony Brook and at Towson, finishing at home vs Richmond.

All can be won, but what poses a challenge is the sequence of away games an who we play away is what concerns me.

Need the defensive front to develop fast and limit the injuries on offense throughout the season.

NSU hit hard by NCAA. May reduce their impact!
