San Diego Padres screw up San Diego Gay Men's Chorus National Anthem - Fort Bend Owl - 05-22-2016 02:27 PM

This didn't quite go as planned. The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus was supposed to sing the national anthem before one of the Padres games the other day but as they were on the field, instead of hearing them, the Padres played a pre-recorded version of the anthem with a female singer piped through the loudspeakers.
According to this blog talking about the incident...
No attempt was made to stop the recording and start over. No announcement of apology was made to the singers or their friends and families in the stands. No attempt to correct the situation occurred other than to force the 100 men to stand in the spotlight of center field for the song’s duration and then be escorted off the field to the heckles of baseball fans shouting homophobic taunts including “You sing like a girl.”
(which actually is rather amusing and I don't think particularly homophobic but I can see how the chorus is rightfully upset)
I also see in this story a video of a 2015 version of the anthem that went off without incident. I guess it's mostly a non-story but I did think it was worthy of mentioning just because I have a dry sense of humor.

This is outrageous. This team should have to forfeit the rest of their season, the owner should have to sale this team and the front office should be gutted from top to bottom. Homophobia and bigotry will not be tolerated in this country.

I'm going to sue this group for excluding heterosexual men. Isn't that the liberal solution for private groups letting in who they want? Scream, pout, hold their breath, and then threaten to sue.

I do feel bad for the guys, as you'd find it a priviledge to sing the Nat'l anthem at a major sporting event, and the team f'd it up.

That's outrageous and completely uncalled for. On the other hand, why do you need the chorus to be all gay men? If you want to be treated like everyone else, why set yourself apart?

Who says they exclude heterosexual men? From what I can tell, there is no requirement anywhere that you be gay...you just have to be able to sing.
Unrelated, but I used to sing in a Christian choir and we had several members who sang and played with the orchestra who were Muslim.

The real delusion is that an organization with 50,000 or more big league players in the last three decades could really have no openly Gay players just by coincidence. I've always thought the Gay Night Out was always BS. Where are the out players? Where are the out player development/coaching staff?
