Ivy League bball tournament - Erictelevision - 02-28-2016 02:25 PM

If they went to a postseason tournament, which style do you prefer?

*They're

Also, there are only 8 teams in the Ivy League, so calling it the "top 8" is misleading. Still, I vote for including all 8. I don't like it when conferences exclude teams from conference playoffs.

[Edit: I like the idea of having the top 2 teams play, though. That just seems like an Ivy League thing to do.]

NZ: you are obviously correct that they have only 8 teams! Thanks for seeing my grammar flub. :)

If you wanted some exclusivity, you could always have a Final Four.

BTW, where to hold this hypothetical tourney? I'd say the DCU Center makes sense. Reasonably centrally located, not too close to any campus.

Honestly, I'd rotate between all 8 campuses.

Otherwise, I would probably do it in Boston, Prov, Hartford, NYC, Syracuse (possibly), and Philly (possibly). I know that leaves Dartmouth put in the cold, but they aren't far from half of those locations and I'd imagine they have a ton of grads in both Boston and NYC.

If I had to pick one location, it would be NYC. Columbia, Princeton, and Cornell would be happy for obvious reasons. Penn would be happy because it beats out the alternative of Boston. Yale would be happy because it's close to them and it keeps Harvard from playing on a home court. Brown wouldn't be too upset. They're probably pretty agnostic, and they are the least significant Ivy. Harvard would probably prefer Boston, but I doubt they would fight too hard because it would give them games in front of their wealthiest alumni. Dartmouth is Dartmouth.

As for the tourney size, a final four isn't exclusive enough for Ivy League snobbery. It would have to either be a completely exclusive affair or a full-blown tourney where everyone is roughly equal. Anything in between wouldn't be fitting.

Worcester is pretty centrally located. But I agree rotating is also an idea. Could they fill the DCU CENTER? (Bball capacity: 13,000)

I doubt that the tourney would fill my old high school gym lol

So, WPI's gym?

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Springfield would be close to ideal. The location is pretty central, and it's the birthplace of basketball. I can see how the historical connection would appeal to the Ivy League.

Yeah!! I thought of that too!! Great call!!

RE: Ivy League bball tournament - Wolfman - 03-06-2016 06:46 PM

Top 8? I thought they only had 8 schools??

I'd say Big Brother format. An alternative would be Double Dare format.

RE: Ivy League bball tournament - Erictelevision - 03-06-2016 10:31 PM

Yup, we established that they're only 8 Ivy schools.

What are the "Big Brother" and "Double Dare" formats?

Big Brother usually has some sort of endurance test. Something like standing on your toes on a ledge while they spray you with cold water. They also have goofy athletic tests like crawling through a swamp of honey wile wearing a gorilla costume to collect giant bananas. Double Dare is a kids game show where they just try and cover the kids in one sticky goo or another.

Silly way of saying - no one would go. No one would watch. They don't need the money.

Now that this is a reality, where is it being played?

RE: Ivy League bball tournament - Wolfman - 03-01-2017 03:57 PM

According to this, Philadelphia.

It looks like only the top 4 are playing.

RE: Ivy League bball tournament - Erictelevision - 03-01-2017 04:05 PM

Thanks Wolfman! Earlier in the thread the idea of rotating it around was thrown out there. Also saw it's just the top 4 teams.
