As I've mentioned, it's going to take a lot more than a decent Sun Belt start to overcome what is now 15 years of mediocre basketball, and 7 years of Brady.

Have to agree with this. Basketball has been so bad in the past that no one really even pays attention. As a student I know that it's almost never even brought up in conversation. On top of that, classes don't start back until this Tuesday, so not many students have been in town to go to the games. That should help to boost attendance. Hopefully with this good start and new blood coming into the coaching position, we can ride the momentum and start putting some consistently good basketball product forward soon.

Yeah, if you have watched any of our home games, we have been struggling with attendance.

You tell me . . . the University and the city have nearly doubled in size since the Convocation Center opened.

No doubt our attendance is putrid. However, three of our five home games have been when students are out of town, including the only one where there would be a decent draw (UNCC). Add in the fact that we're 4-13, and that's where you get a number like that. Our average will be over a 1000 after this weekend though.

Nobody wants to be in downtown Atlanta in January and we are not a basketball town. Last nights attendance should help though.

I think it was announced at 3800+. Fun game, wish we could have pulled it out.

It's awesome that our rivalry has been more hotly contested on both the football field and basketball court than most fans on either side would have predicted.

RE: SBC MBB Attendance standings so far - GaSoEagle - 01-20-2016 12:07 PM

This rivalry is good for the Sun Belt and for both schools. When Ga St comes to Statesboro in a few weeks to return the ball game we will have a big crowd. We could be in last place (and we may be) but we will play over our heads in that game.

The funny thing is, the attendance started going down the season after we made our 1 NCAA tournament appearance.

It took a complete free fall once Nutt got his first unearned extension, and fell off a few years ago entirely when everyone got tired of Brady.

After last week's games our average went up to 2,249. Nice having the students back finally. Those 3-4 games during Christmas break are always tough for attendance.
