Central Michigan Game - BigTribe2 - 12-29-2015 07:47 AM
Tonight (at 7:30 by the way...the women play ODU at 5:30) our good guys face Western Michigan, a strong 2015 NCAA tourney team...an important game that, with a win by the Tribe, would propel us to 8-3 on the season.
Our guys went to their homes for the holiday and return with just one full practice...hopefully the layoff won't have a negative effect.

Technically, I believe that our opponent is Central Western Michigan University, which is well respected for it's Geography Department.

I think that the guys were supposed to be back at practice on Saturday morning.

The Central Michigan sports teams are officially named "THE CHIPPEWAS! which is the name of an American Indian tribe and therefore "hurtful and offensive". What to do if their team name is on their jerseys when they come out on the floor at W&M Hall?

How did we get such a harsh penalty? These guys just had to change logos.
On March 1, 1989, an advisory committee to the president recommended retaining the name under certain conditions. Those conditions included developing educational programs in conjunction with the local Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council, sessions to familiarize CMU students and staff with traditional Native American culture, dropping the two official CMU Native American logos (a Native American profile and a spearpoint with a feather inside a block "C"), eliminating Native American drumbeats by pep bands and other measures.
