Football Conference Championship Local TV Ratings for San Diego - SDSU-Alum2003 - 12-11-2015 02:18 PM

Just some local San Diego TV data I though this board might be interested in.

SEC 6.1
B1G 5.0
MWC/SDSU 4.0
PAC12 2.7
ACC 2.2

This is very interesting to SDSU due to the fact that the MWC/SDSU competes for TV ratings with only one other western region P5 conference, the PAC 12. On numerous occasions fans/PAC 12 officials have claimed they own the San Diego market. As this data set shows that is not even close to being accurate.

Here was the TV lineup that night for PAC 12 & MWC...

SDSU vs Air Force - MWC Championship - 4:30pm - ESPN 2

VS

Stanford vs USC - PAC 12 Championship - 4:45pm - ESPN

Just some data to ponder for the BIG XII should they chose to expand by 2 or more teams in the future.

Would SDSU ever be considered by the PAC 12? I don't know very much about that school...

In the near term, IMO, I don't think SDSU will get an invite for the PAC 12. I may be a possibility in the future. We will get too much resistance from USC/UCLA.

However, that could all change if the Chargers leave San Diego for Los Angeles. All indications are that this will be the last season in San Diego for the NFL.

When the Chargers depart SDSU will purchase a large portion of the 168 acre Qualcomm Stadium site for an SDSU West Campus expansion that is only 2 trolley stops away from SDSU Main Campus. This will include classrooms/research labs, student/faculty housing, associated retail/dining that caters to students/faculty and a large public research park adjacent to the San Diego River in partnership with UCSD.

In addition, a new 35,000-40,000 seat SDSU stadium will also eventually be built (likely with the ability to be expanded if needed).

This will be a game changer for SDSU not only from an academic perspective but from an athletic department perspective.
