OT: P5 vs. G5 is the biggest distraction in the history of college football - oliveandblue - 10-12-2015 01:09 PM

I feel like a lot of people are being sucked in to this stupid little shell game that is taking place between conferences. FBS TV contracts - which are small by most university standards - mean less than people think they do as most of the money is folded back into the program (coaching salaries and facilities). There is a point of diminishing returns with these contracts. $25 million doesn't make you THAT much better of a team than $18 million - when all you need to run a good team is $5 million!

...and while we are on money, who sees all of this TV money? The players don't - and their scholarships aren't even guaranteed! The fans don't get a rebate for the money they pour in.

The people that see this money are anonymous suits/egotistical coaches that are merely employed by the universities. They freely move between schools at no penalty whatsoever. When these types of people make a mistake, the school is then put in a position where it has to suck money from the alumni just to buy out of a bad deal. It's the most wasteful thing ever - and the big TV contracts will only encourage more corruption and waste. The football isn't getting that much better considering all of the money that is being poured into it.

You are all fighting about money that is being funneled into the pockets of people that don't give a frick about you.

If you want to see your school achieve more in athletics (and in general), then you need to look at the following:

1. If these are supposed to be student-athletes out there, then why are scholarships being guaranteed? These guys are being treated like contract interns.

2. How can we make the NCAA into a third-party organization instead of one that acts on behalf of special interests?

3. Why are so angry about realignment when we're going to love our schools regardless of who they play?

HOWEVER, this is not my point. What I believe is that if most alumni took that same energy and passion that they put behind building a "conference profile" and applied it to the corruption behind the scenes of both sports and politics, we would have a much better Division I:

- athletes would be educated properly
- the NCAA would probably get shuttered and replaced
- recruiting rules would actually be paid attention to

...among other things.

There are people in football and outside of football that are getting filthy rich from this realignment shell game.
