"An all time dumb coaching decision" - 7 - 10-07-2015 12:08 PM

I have said that multiple times, both on here and on twitter in last 4 days.

Armed with new information, I want to take back those comments.

Drew Hare isn't healthy. I'm not going to go into details, but he's not.

It was less throwing poop at the wall and hoping it sticks, and more hoping Graham could function better than a less than 100% Hare.

If you want to keep ripping Carey, Cole, Hare, etc, but due to transfers (Root, McIntosh) and injuries (Hare, Maddie), they're in a really difficult spot right now.

Hare is listed as QB in the depth chart but I would not doubt you are right, depth charts do not mean much, would not be surprised if you are right and Hare doesn't start Saturday.

What was close to an all time dumb coaching decision was having Graham throw a ball over the middle on his first series

Also, I think NIU failed Hare in one big respect last Saturday, it was semi-clear he had a concussion after that one play he couldn't walk in a straight line. Players on the field should have noticed that and brought attention to the coaching staff.

Oh boy.... not good. This season could get ugly. Its a shame we have a solid D. Any offensive output and we have another good year.

Lets wait and be sure Hare doesn't start Saturday before we get too carried away.

If we have to sit Hare due to injury then we have to sit Hare. It will be a long year then but it wouldn't be fair (or safe) to keep throwing the guy out there if he can't play, just because the backup is out and the 3rd string guy isn't ready yet.

My only question was, why not let him run the ball or hand it off a couple times to get into the flow of the game a little before having him throw?

CMU knows he does not have a lot of experience. Yes, the play did not work but I am sure CMU was thinking run, bubble screen some of the more conservative plays. They were not thinking he would throw it down field. Gutsy call but did not work. Hell, maybe Graham throws well down field and he felt comfortable throwing.

I agree. Especially down in your own end like that. I am not an advocate of wasting possessions, but give the kid at least a series (in bad weather) to shake the shitballs out.

Then riddle me this Batman....

Isn't it even more baffling that over the last 3 games the distribution of Runs from scrimmage (I'm not including jet sweeps in this) has been:

Hare: 42%
ACRB: 55%
Huff 7%
Red-shirt FR: 0%

Obviously with Hare this will change Saturday but you can't just add those carries to ACRB.

Huff, DJ Brown & Turner need to be 30-40% of the carries Saturday. If not now....when?

RE: "An all time dumb coaching decision" - 7 - 10-07-2015 02:06 PM

Simple answer is Hare's legs are perfectly healthy.

RE: "An all time dumb coaching decision" - 7 - 10-07-2015 02:09 PM

As for the RB carries, if you think after using three RBs the last two years, Carey and Cole woke up during fall camp this year and decided, hey I only want ACRB carrying the ball, I don't know what to tell you.

For whatever reason, they don't trust Huff.

They still made bad play calls with Graham in the game. The kid has no experience and you call a passing play for him to throw down the middle in his 2nd snap. Have him hand off to the RB, we were running the ball effectively with the RB and if you want to give him some confidence passing then call those lateral screen passes for him to get him going. They could have done a better job with the play selection.

LOL...So as Coach Q would say, "It's an upper body injury."

And the good news is his legs are fine.
Bad news is the rest of his body is attached to them.

Yea, that much is apparent. Honestly I don't know if he misses blocks or something, I haven't watched for that on the few plays that Huff was in there.

It most likely has something to do with his hand, particularly his thumb, if he was having issues gripping the ball. But if they knew that then they should have just called all running plays (i know they were already calling a bunch of run plays), but keep it on the ground if he was fumbling so many passes.

Desperation brings in trust. Hi, Huff.

RE: "An all time dumb coaching decision" - huskiebob - 10-07-2015 03:07 PM

Raising the issue of the coaching staff not going through the concussion protocol with Hare is totally uncalled for. None of us knows whether Hare was concussed or whether he went through the protocol while he was on the sidelines.

There is zero reason to think that this coaching staff would be stupid enough to be that negligent and irresponsible. Zero.

Loose talk has been a staple lately and I think that can be unwise. Our coaches are in the arena and know whats happening, I am in the stands and only think whats happening. The coaches and the doctors on the sideline have their head in the game and know what to do.

I suspected that was likely the case and I was not sure whether to hope that I was right or wrong. Either way it is bad news. I hope he recovers quickly and I hope they hold him out if he does not, even it it means suffering through some losses.
