How Google can sway the election - Fort Bend Owl - 08-19-2015 09:29 PM http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/08/how-google-could-rig-the-2016-election-121548.html#.VdU5CPlViko I don't buy all the speculation in this story but I think there is one very valid point about Google (or maybe Bing or Yahoo if that's your search engine of choice) that a lot of people are missing out on. In 2015, the internet is a more important media outlet (or at the very least equal to) to TV and radio. So in that sense, Google is probably as important as Fox News or CNN or one of the main networks. Case in point - my normal news viewing habit every day (usually several times a day) is to check news.google.com to see what is happening in the world. What's to stop Google from playing up all the negative Trump or Clinton stories at the expense of another candidate if they are backing a certain candidate? Obviously there are a lot of web sites which cater to a political party of choice, or political leaning. But Google is supposed to be fair and balanced and just presenting search choices without a built-in bias. This article says that isn't always the case. RE: How Google can sway the election - nomad2u2001 - 08-19-2015 09:53 PM I'd just assume that the news you can get from google would play to the searcher's biases. They know what each person wants to see. I'd actually be shocked if you had a Google account and it didn't play to your biases. There was an interesting series where a person sets up two accounts: one of a conservative male of one age and one liberal male. The internet experiences (including search results for the same query) of one totally differed from the other.
